Best work trousers for a Pie Eater

Hi, Any suggestions for decent hard wearing trousers that dont break the bank but come in a 44" waist  Currently have some Snickers duratwill trousers but they have started to go all crappy under the legs which makes them uncomfortable to wear. Have also worn Workman stuff but...

    Replacement work van

I've driven most of those suggested with my job . . . If budget allows I'd go either for a Transporter or a Vito, Both are about the same size, reliable and give a good cost of ownership/mpg etc . . . if pushed I'd say the Vito was more comfortable that the Transporter. Transit, workhorse...

    Which laser level?

I've used a Dewalt DW087k for about 18 months now for installing AV screens and video walls . . . I'm not a fan of Dewalt myself and tend to stick to Bosch equipment but in all honesty I can't really fault it. I was considering the Bosch level at the time I bought it but money was tight so I...

Freight Container as Temporary Garage (?)

The boss of the last company I worked for had one of these containers in the corner of his warehouse, he used to lock all his toys in (Motorbikes). I'm not sure what you'd be keeping in there, but I'd look at cutting some ventilation in the thing, we used to overpowered by petrol fumes...

    underfloor cable trunking?

As the last post said, we've used 40mm Waste pipe before as containment where customers have requested it.... can remember using it for an AV install in HMS Raleigh's teaching kitchens purely as they steam cleaned the areas . . . . always thought it was stupid sealing the cables in then...

    Plasterboard

If it's just a single skin of board then your only hope is to find the studs and coach screw into the battens, if your back plate for the mount isnt wide enough to span the battens then an MDF pad will have to be screwed on first then the mount goes onto there. If you have twin boarded walls...

Large pipe cutter to use on Unicol poles

update from me looking for a pipe cutter, another subbie I worked along side suggested I tried Northern Tool, found a 10mm-60mm pipe cutter for less than £17, was a bit skeptical at the price but thought I'd give it a try (as he has done 100's of poles and is still on his first cutter)...

    Choice of 2 drills?

Bosch any day for me, I have one of the DeWalt ones you listed as a back up drill, have no complaints about it with the exception of the weight :-( They are doing some nice 14v Bosch ones as Screwfix at the moment...

Stopping bricks blowing out when drilling through walls

Hi all . . . silly question I know, but how do I stop bricks blowing out when drilling through both layers when pulling cables or installing coax? . . . . is it simply turning off the hammer on an SDS for the last little bit or are there other tricks? Mark

Large pipe cutter to use on Unicol poles

Thanks for the replies. Angle Grinder and Chopsaws normally mean hot works permits so wanted to avoid, Hacksaw is my usual method but wanted to cut out the time as we have loads of poles to trim. Ashamed to say the answer was right under my nose, Rothenburger in Kettering are on the same...

Large pipe cutter to use on Unicol poles

Closest thing I can find on Google is an exhaust pipe cutter, Silverline stuff is ok for occasional use, I want something that'll last. I know one of our engineers bought a Record one, dunno if they still make them . . . gonna try a plumbers merchants tomorrow

Large pipe cutter to use on Unicol poles

Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong forum thread, but as its AV related I thought I'd stick it in anyway. Any AV installation engineers out there know where I can get a pipe cutter that'll fit drop poles? They're normally a 50mm sized pipe, chrome plated steel or powder coated, I know...

Mounting a 42" Plasma .- Wall is concrete

Vogels tend to have very small mounting holes. If the mount is flat to wall then use dome head screws and plugs (maybe even coach screws and plugs), if your going to tilt the screen I'd be looking at Tapcon / Hilti concrete screws (drill 6mm hole and drive them straight into the concrete) . . ...

    Bosch multi-cutter vs Fein MultiMaster

Screwfix have only just added the GOP 250 CE in a kit form for £169.99, before that they only stocked the 10.5v version. Axminster tools do the GOP 250 CE both in a full kit and on it's own (with a few cutters) for £99.99 . . . havent yet seen the GOP 300 in there, mind you for just under...

    Bosch multi-cutter vs Fein MultiMaster

They are at Aldi tomorrow (20th October) not 100% sure of the make but the blurb I saw said they came with a 3 year warranty. From the picture it looks a lot like this one they sell in Machine Mart...
