    Rendering external ingoes

Thanks Alastair, More curious than anything else, I have a pal from work coming next week possibly, to scratch coat my extension its been a few years since he as swung a trowel and I was just wondering what the process involved was, as I think he will be old school. One more question if...

    Rendering external ingoes

Hi all, When rendering ingoes is it the norm to scratch coat first and then a finish coat? Also many years ago I remember helping (probably getting in the way, I must of been all of 14) dash a garage, the ingoes were faced/levelled with timber on the external wall and then were floated up...

    2 consumer units..

Should of said, the old CU will be coming away and the existing circuits re routed into the new CU. Ref glanding, quite often work with the leccy at work (I'm a maint mech engineer) so done it often enough under his supervision, but I'll more than likely be getting an electrician in to do the...

    Kingspan in timberframe..

Insulating the timber kit walls with Kingspan 100mm thick, any advantage of running a bead of silicone where the kingspan does not quite touch the framing. Most are a snug fit, but there are some touching in places and then slight gaps approx 2-3mm max in most cases. Cheers

Paslode First Fix Nail Gun - anybody used ?

Have you pushed the plastic nozzle fully onto the gas cylinder and not just the first stage. Lower part of the nozzle should be touching the cylinder.

    Expansion joints and firestops..

Just thought I would bring this old chestnut back to the forefront  For anybody interested I spoke to BCO, he said that it is not really a thing the BCO concern themselves with and it is more aimed at NHBC registered builders. So basically I can do what I...

    Expansion joints and firestops..

So, am I correct in saying to build it to "Regs!" this wall would actually require 3 expansion joints. 3Mtr in from each corner and a 3rd one somewhere in the remaining 8Mtr. Phoned BCO but he is on hols until Monday. Elevation of the offending wall shown 3 expansion joints!!

    Expansion joints and firestops..

Just going by the spec on the drawing, they state a joint every 6mtr. Seem to have opened a can of worms .. :?

    Expansion joints and firestops..

Starting to block in the extension now (it's timberframe). One wall is 14Mtr long therefore requiring two expansion joints in the blockwork. Can I place these expansion joints adjacent to my firestops (2x2 with dpc stapled to the surface). i.e. down the centre line of the firestop...

    Size of lintels req'd..

Cheers noseall, went for the 1600's in concrete. Don't see any of the builders using anything other than concrete lintels in the area so I'll do as they do and keep the BCO happy :) The pre-cast supplier here has pretty much cornered the market for these items and only makes them in...

    Size of lintels req'd..

Hi, Looking for a bit of help choosing lintels for above the windows of my extension. The windows are 1200 wide and my supplier does lintels in multiples of 200mm for length (concrete 215x100mm ), so my choice would be 1400 or 1600. It's a timberframe single storey extension and...

If it's a glazed door and the side opposite the hinges is sagging downwards, try a quick google for "toeing and heeling" a door. May cure your repetitive problem.

Hi all, After a bit of info regarding fitting a Velux sun Tunnel which I hope to try tomorrow if the rain gods behave. Looking at the fitting instructions and I'm fairly happy with the framing etc. it's more the contents of the box I am questioning. There are two strips of what is best...
