    Electric CH and DHW

I've got a traditional gas CH and DHW system in a flat. Due to new regs I can't replace the gas boiler with another gas boiler so I'm going to have to go electric. Is it going to be as simple as changing from a gas boiler to an electric boiler and leaving everything else in place. What are my...

Great, any suggestions what I can use instead of the Prolite outdoor and mini candles, and where might be a good place to get some

    LED or CFL

Thanks, yes I bought a LED bulb off eBay once and it stopped working pretty quick. I've been buying them from TLC Direct since and have never had any problems. Overall though, do you think I'm better off sticking with my CFLs or is it time to move to LEDs?

    LED or CFL

I've been using the CFL lamps Prolite Helix Eco T2 25W (Daylight, 100W equivalent, BC), outside Sylvania Mini Lynx Compact Candle 9W (40W equivalent SES), inside Are there LED alternatives to these bulbs? I've seen something called LED Corn Light 5730SMD bulbs, which look like they might do...

    White Monitor Screen

I bought them off eBay, as I've always done. Not the cheapest ones but from a business seller who according to the page had sold thousands of them. I think I paid about a fiver. Maplins have some on their website for 34.99, which seems a bit steep, they do come with a 5 year guarantee but...

    White Monitor Screen

Finally got a cable, but no luck still a blank screen. Then bought a DVI-VGA adaptor and connected to monitor using a VGA cable, still no luck. Then bought a second DVI-D cable and hey presto everything fine. Obviously the old DVI cable had given up, I'm assuming the first DVI-D cable that I...

    White Monitor Screen

Thanks, unfortunately I haven't got another DVI-DVI cable handy (plenty of VGAs) so I'll nip out tomorrow and get another. I thought about trying another monitor but all my spares have only got VGA connectors. The graphics card is a Nvidia Quadro FX4600, a bit chunky but everything in the case...

    White Monitor Screen

My Samsung monitor came up with a white screen when I turned it on the other day. I've tried turning it off and on but it's still just plain white. At first I thought the monitor had gone but when I connect it to another PC it works fine. Sounds like the graphics card in my PC has gone. Is...

    Monitor Ghosting

All sorted! The monitor has a DVI-D port and the PC has a DVI-I port. So I bought a cable with DVI-D connectors at both ends, and hey presto no more ghosting. Although the previous cable was DVI too I didn't expect the VGA connector to distort the picture so much. Thanks for all your help.

    Monitor Ghosting

Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand. The workstation only has a dvi-i port at the rear and both monitors are connected at their vga ports. Using the same cable/adapter the Dell monitor does not have any ghosting while the Samsung monitor has ghosting.

    Monitor Ghosting

I attached a Samsung 23.6" S24C200 monitor to a Dell 745 SFF PC using a vga2vga cable and the picture is crystal clear. When I connect the same monitor to a Dell Precision 690 workstation using a dvi-i2vga cable I ghosting on the monitor. I've tried using both a dvi-i2vga cable and a vga2vga...

    CFL or LED

Some feedback on how it went. Tried the bulb from Toolstation, it was OK but as expected a bit "yellow". eBay had lots of LEDs but some were unbranded, some thought a 40 degree spread was wide beam and some had long delivery times. In the end went with TLC because I've bought bulbs from them...

    CFL or LED

Forgot to ask. Only one of the CFL lamps has gone, can I just do a straight swap with a LED lamp and replace the other CFLs as they go, or should I replace all the CFLs with LEDs now?

    CFL or LED

Oh nothing against LEDs. Just the last time I tried ( a couple of years ago now) I bought a box of half a dozen to replace all the GU10 halogens, but ended up binning the lot because the spread was really poor. I think I might give the Toolstation bulb a go, even though it's only has a 60...

    CFL or LED

The bulbs I've got are from CED, similar to these ones https://ced-elec.co.uk/cms/cms.jsp?menu_id=8962&prodref=CFLGU1011WDL&category=CFLGU10GX53 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/11W-GU10-Energy-Saving-Light-Bulb-CFL-in-Cool-White-Top-Brand-/400633986219?hash=item5d47a57cab:g:FpQAAOxyRhBSvsTt The one...

    CFL or LED

That might be worth a try. I was in Toolstation today and the bloke said they didn't have anything with a CFL like spread. He suggest I try B&Q. At B&Q they showed me a LED which claimed a 100 degree spread but the lady there said it was still basically a spot light and I wouldn't get the...

    CFL or LED

Thanks. Would you happen to know why that is? I've always used CFLs because they give a 100 degrees spread of light, LEDs tend to be around 36 degrees.

    CFL or LED

I've got a kitchen light fitting that originally came with 50W GU10 halogen bulbs. For the last couple of years I've been using 11W GU10 compact fluorescent lamps (CED branded) that I used to buy from Toolstation. All my spares have finished but Toolstation don't sell them anymore and a lot of...
