So bit more reading and I think this design will be fine? Using 4x2 Treated. Gonna use coach bolts through the posts and the 2 joists running along side them. 2 on each post. Using joist hangers inbetween the 2 main "beams". This be ok?

    Decking advice

Ok so I came up with another design. Would this be better? Only issue I see with it, would be that I would need alot of joist hangers which would make it a bit more costly. Is this the right amount of posts or could I get away with less or more. Could I say just have one row of posts in the...

    Decking advice

Here is new plan im working on. I think I may remove the angle, as it could get quite complicated and it really does not add anything extra to it. Other thing I cant get my head round yet is how I will add steps up to it. Either full width but with slope I cant work out how to do it. Or else...

    Decking advice

Thanks. I plan to run the decking grooves parallel to the garage wall. This way they run to the step and access point to the deck. Its just going to be an area for sitting/BBQ etc. Its a sheltered sun trap. No hot tubs im afraid!! I would like to use 4x2 to keep the height down, due to the...

2 or 3 hinges for garden gate

Quick one. I have made a gate frame which is 1600 H by 1050 W. There is vertical boards on top of frame and they sit at its highest point 200mm above frame (its an arc shape on top). With the extra bit below the frame its prob max 1900 H. I have a central span in the frame. Do I need to install...

    PT Timber Gate Joints

I am making 2 gates for a double gate in driveway. I was thinking to keep it simple and just use half lap joints for the frame corners with glue and screws. For the diagonal was going to put angled mortise and tenon joints in. However as I was planning on using PT timber, I was a bit concerned...

Fixings for gate post to wall

Just a quick one on hinges. I was looking at the hook and band hinges in local store. However I want the gate to open outwards and not inwards. With those type of hinges they look like they have to be fitted on the side where it opens too. Or perhaps I am wrong on this? However they are not the...
