    Question about earthing

It was bonded. At least to the earth rod. I don't understand the theory behind why that's wrong but I'm prepared to accept that it is! The job is long finished and paid for, so I doubt I'll get them back as they'll be unlikely to admit there's any issue. So if it doesn't need the bonding (to...

    Question about earthing

When I filled in the trench it certainly behaved like MDPE hose. Grey IIRC. SGN laid it down, so I hope they know what they're doing!

    Question about earthing

Blimey, good job I asked. I had a sneaking suspicion something might be iffy about this, but I don't really know the theory behind it. I don't think it will be a hard job for me to disconnect the earth rod and take the cable round the outside of the house, then get an electrician to connect...

    Question about earthing

I've recently had a combi installed and, due to the fact that the gas meter is a long, long way from the electricity meter they said it would be easier to put in an earth rod to connect the gas pipe to earth, rather than take 16mm cable all the way back to the electric meter. I didn't see them...

    Painting a baby's cot?

Thanks for your post too. You are right. Little green is cheaper and their Intelligent eggshell is even EN71:3 compliant which is specifically good for children's environment and toys just like Ecos's Nursery paint. Cool...

    Painting a baby's cot?

[/url] I have been looking into toys paints too and both Mythic and Ecos come to the same price for 1 litre including postage (Mythic only £1 cheaper; that is if Ecos were to use RM instead of DHL and if you select Ecos interior wood paint instead of the nursery one NB all their paints...

Any types what wood stove to choose?

I will be looking into wood burners too at some point. So far, I just know that there are two types to consider: a convector stove or a radiant stove. I found their definitions here: http://www.backwoodsman-stoves.co.uk/MAINMENUS/Glossary.html#anchor85200 Hope this helps.

moisture resistant vs foil backed plasterboard

Which one would be better? Moisture resistant or foil backed for the ceiling in the room below the loft? Originally I was supposed to insulate in between joists with insulation, then thermal laminate, then foil backed plasterboard. Instead, the insulation in between the joists was moved in...

Roof insulation: How thk K18 do I need?

Thanks FMT. The rafters are approximately at 400 centres. The area of sloping roof is 13.7m2 for front and the same for the back. Loft size is 3.7m x 5.2m x 2.5m(height in the middle). Do you think 32.5mm K18 is still enough for that?

Roof insulation: How thk K18 do I need?

I have 100mm of insulation between rafters as per drawing. Now I need Kooltherm K18 to the underside of the rafters but the drawing doesn't say what thickness to use? It says next I will need 12mm thk foil backed plasterboard, skimmed. I don't understand. Why do I need that as well? As...

What is the best way to cut an insulation board?

Good idea although I would worry about possibly cutting through the felt. I guess you didn't have that. Why not? Hmm, mine doesn't come with the grid. Maybe next time, thanks for the tip.

What is the best way to cut an insulation board?

I see my problem was that I cut the board down its longer side and in a horizontal position. I will try the vertical position and cut down the shorter side which will allow me to see the blade. Cheers.

What is the best way to cut an insulation board?

Hi, I would very much appreciate if there is somebody who has experience in cutting insulation boards and can give advice on what is the best way to cut them. Even if I take perfect between the rafters measurements for a snug fit I cannot fit the board in. I cut it with a panel hand saw for...

Insulating pitched roof between rafters rather than joists.

Sorry for not being clear. I am going to use it all: insulation boards between the rafters, k18 and plasterboard on the underside of the rafters.

Insulating pitched roof between rafters rather than joists.

Can someone see anything wrong with this plan? My drawing specifies insulation (100mm) between the joists in the loft (pitched roof). I want to move it all between the rafters (150mm) so I can have an insulated attic space. I know that in this case the roof needs to be ventilated so I will...

What is this insulation board called?

Sorry, I added my query to this old posting but was not getting any replies so I made it a new topic which has been more successful and got some helpful replies. http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=280545&highlight= Thank you anyway for noticing this one and responding.

    Celotex GA3100 or Kingspan TP10

I believe these are identical with regards to R and U values. Which one would you go for if they cost the same? Thanks.

    Celotex GA3100 vs GA4100

Presumably by 'this type' you mean insulation boards in general not just Celotex in particular?
