Need Fireproof Wall in Loft between me and neighbours

Hi, thanks for the replies so far. From what I understand, I'd have to use two 12.5mm layers of standard plasterboard OR 1 layer of 15mm Fireline. So all I need an answer to is.....Do the boards need skimming to be cleared as safe or will bare boards on studs suffice?

Need Fireproof Wall in Loft between me and neighbours

Ok I may have miscalculated! Nonetheless it is a large opening. What can I mount the plasterboard onto. Will 3 x 2 scant be ok. Does the board then need skimming?

Need Fireproof Wall in Loft between me and neighbours

Hi everyone, I have a large diamond shape hole in the loft wall which allows access into my neighbours loft and vice versa. I believe these are very common in old terraced houses. I want to cover it using Fireline plasterboard on my side and the neighbours side. I know I could brick it...

Papering and Skirting a new Skim Coat

Thanks everyone, I'm just going to have to make the best of a bad situation. It's the wall papering that's scaring me as I did some test paint patches on the walls to be painted and it looked great. Don't think blistering emulsion will look quite as nice! I still don't think I've...

Papering and Skirting a new Skim Coat

Can you suggest what I put over the silk paint so I can paper the wall. I don't want to line the wall as it has been skimmed perfectly. If I do change my mind about everything, how do I remove the mist coat. Do I peel it off???? Do I stick something to it and pull that off to hopefully...

Papering and Skirting a new Skim Coat

I'm gutted about this, I asked the oldest guy in B&Q what paint I could use for the mist coat. He pointed me to Crown Brilliant Silk Emulsion. What should I paint over the silk mist on the wall I intend to paper. Thanks guys. I'm so gutted I listened to him now.

Papering and Skirting a new Skim Coat

Guys, I must emphasise it was just the bits I denibbed which peeled a little. I think I will do some test patches of the finish emulsion and see how I go from there. Inspection of the wall shows it looks ok. The room is entirely mistcoated in silk emulsion. Will I need to paint over...

Papering and Skirting a new Skim Coat

Hi, I will be painting three walls and wallpapering one. I have a Dulux silk emulsion for the good coats. I take it this will stick to the mistcoat and therefore could end up peeling as well. How can I remove the mist coat without damaging the new skim. What should I use when I re do...

Papering and Skirting a new Skim Coat

Ok, could have a problem here. The mistcoat was watered down silk emulsion. No mention of vinyl on the container. I tried to denib by light sanding and noticed that some of the paint simply peeled away like a skin!!! Arggggh. The mix was watered down 4 Paint to 1 Water. It might be...

Papering and Skirting a new Skim Coat

Hi everyone. I've just had the room skimmed and the plaster is dry. I've left it a few extra days to be on the safe side I'll be painting three walls and papering one (wife's decision!). In a previous forum posting I have established that the fresh plaster must be "prepared" with...

    Painting New Skim Coat

Hi everyone, The Plasterer skimmed a bedroom on Wednesday and Thursday. It has only been a couple of days but they have been the hottest days of the year. As a result 3/4 if the room appears dry. Obviously I won't be painting until the rest of the room is dry. I've read on the net that...

Accenta 6 Alarm - Loss of power and Flashing PIRs

Ok, hopefully sorted the power problem. The fuse in the Alarm Unit terminal box was blown but there was a replacement in the box. I am not going to consider turning it back on until tomorrow. Last thing I want is a midnight alarm!!! So the only question remains: does anyone know why 2 of...

Accenta 6 Alarm - Loss of power and Flashing PIRs

Hi everyone, The plasterer has been today and has somehow broke the burglar alarm. I've tested voltage going into the unit. The mains is supplying 240 Volts but this stops as soon as it hits the alarm's terminal box. The alarm has a power unit but this is encased in plastic and I cannot get...

    Saniflo with Hep2o / Hep20 Discharge Pipe

Hi Alex, I have emailed the man from saniflo back for confirmation. As far as I know, HEP20 and Speedfit are different. Also, I will only need a single run of pipe with no joins from start to finish. I will post his response.
