    Car battery isolator vs CCA

Carman, thank you. I remember getting a £400 bill for a problem with a windscreen wiper on an S-Type, wiring issue, and that was 20 years ago. Steve the garage man said it should have been a lot more but he felt that was all he could charge, bless him! 20 years ago and other end of the country...

    Car battery isolator vs CCA

Carman, yeah as i said earlier, the last auto-electrician i tried didn’t want to get involved in this. There are other auto-electricians out there i guess …. maybe i’ll try to find one willing to have a look. Long ago i remember a mate who was an electrician not wanting to mess with...

    Car battery isolator vs CCA

Thanks guys. Re opening the boot without power, it can be opened with the key. But the key is hard to turn so maybe not a good idea to use that method all the time, feels like it might wear or break something!

    Car battery isolator vs CCA

Thanks thomp1983. Just to recap, i want to disconnect the battery, say overnight. The battery is in the boot. The boot latch is powered so the boot can’t be securely closed without power. So i need a remote-control isolator. Which solves the boot-closing catch-22 problem. If next day i had to...

Meanwhile, best wishes for New Year! Also, can we re-visit the question at the start of the topic : can i click my isolator to “on”, jump in and start the engine? ChatGPT reckons no - it’d fry the isolator. Some bloke in Australia reviewing an isolator on Amazon reckons he’s starting his 6 litre...

    Car battery isolator vs CCA

Ah yeah been disconnecting neg terminal then connecting a cable from battery negative to the negative cable, in parallel with the multimeter. Then wait 20 minutes. Then disconnect the cable leaving the multimeter connected. So all the current goes through the multimeter. Have to use this “shunt”...

Old salt, johnd, thanks. Battery pretty new, tested ok recently by RAC. No not seen that RMsYoutube. Boot lid can’t be pushed all the way down by hand, short of say just under a centimetre so maybe not quite watertight? Yeah re warmth - is it possible to prioritise fuses to check? Some things...

    Car battery isolator vs CCA

Thanks Harry, i quite agree. But as i say, nobody seems to want to know. And that’s just for a diagnosis. Re. fixing the symptom, would the CCA fry the isolator? Ah also, we have another car, the Jag is not required for daily use.

    Car battery isolator vs CCA

Hi chaps. 2004 Jaguar XJ8. Something is drawing 4 amps at rest, so obvs battery is flat overnight. Got multimeter. Tried pulling a few fuses, alternator AC ripple test. Fault not found. Garages unenthusiastic. Last auto electrician ran away screaming. I use a Noco booster to start it. Workaround...

    Bosch dishwasher door

Hi chaps. My Bosch dishwasher door used to open by pressing it, then it would spring open. It has now stopped doing that. I can get it open using the two red plastic things that came with it, and the actual wash still works. Any idea pls?
