External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

Aha, so you mean if I left it disabled by accident? No problem, I'd only ever turn it off if it malfunctioned and was causing a problem through the night, so don't think I'd leave it disabled by accident. The illuminated light is a good idea though, that would make 100% certain, cheers. :)

External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

Thanks to all who have replied so far - at least 3 of you are basically saying the same thing I think, which is that it would be possible, and each of you have described it in a slightly different way, which will be a great help to me when i ask the installer about it, so thanks. :)

External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

What consequences do you mean? I just won't claim any security discount on my insurance if that's what you mean... (?) I think there is an internal battery, as I'm sure the guy said something about that when he was here years ago... I will ask him about your suggestion when he comes - I'd never...

External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

I'm afraid I don't know what the model is, but perhaps someone here will know by looking at it?

External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

Aha that's interesting, I'll ask them about that I get them round to do a service (I don't have a service often by the way, doesn't seem to be much point, but I've not had one for years and will be a good opportunity to ask questions like this).

External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

BUMP: Is there no one on here who can offer any advise on this please?

External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

I have always done so previously, but I don't think it makes a huge difference to the premium, so if I'd be invalidating the insurance by doing this, I'd be happy to amend my insurance accordingly and pay a few pounds more.

External siren - can it be modified to be turned off manually from inside?

I hope I can explain this sufficiently as I'm not very technical... We have an i-on30EXD alarm system - pretty standard stuff, keypad in the hallway, sensors in the rooms, some kind of internal siren somewhere, and a big much noisier external siren positioned near the roof, so accessible only...

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

Ok, I don’t have a great deal to update, but promised I would so here goes: Gas-Safe performed a basic service. He said that he could take the boiler apart and check each individual bit, but he made it very clear that the boiler is very old, some bits have clearly leaked before, some bits look...

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

Thanks both. I'll let the Gas-Safe guy know about that too when he comes - might be connected, might not. If he does a full service, I'll ask him about all those bits and pieces listed above. ;)

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

Actually I have some new info that may or may not be related. When I went into the en suite this morning, I heard a quick loud buzzing sound from the ceiling / loft above. It happened twice. Can't remember if it was before or after I turned on a tap. Lasted less than a second each time. It's...

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

I've actually booked a local tradesman now as he comes highly recommended by a good friend. However, weirdly, I turned the boiler back on about 11am this morning in order to check how long after turning on it makes that vibrating noise, and the damn thing hasn't done it all day! Could the...

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

Hmm, will look into BW fixed price repair. They also do a package with 12 months cover included after the repair (though you have to phone for that, which suggests it may be very expensive). EDIT: Oh no, just saw on the WB website that both repair and repair & cover deals are both for boilers...

That's really helpful and reassuring info - thanks very much. :)

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

How do these fixed price repairs work though? What if they agree £240, but actually the whole thing needs replacing? What's to stop them from agreeing (say) £240, then coming out and fixing it if it's easy, or refunding my £240 if it's hard and they can't fix it easily - in which case in the...

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

Yes, I would say it's nearer the top than the bottom. The boiler doesn't shut down though, it carries on working and is definitely heating the house (via underfloor heating). Well, it was for a few days - I've turned it off now. If it is something like the fan or the water pump, will it be...

What is this boiler noise? Is it dangerous?

In the last few days our boiler has started making a strange vibrating noise for about 10 seconds at a time every now and then (sometimes every few hours, sometimes more often). I’ve made a video – the vibrating noise begins on about 30 seconds...

How safe is this front door lock?

Thing is, I haven't got lots of spare cash, so trying to decide which is more important, better physical security i.e. locks and bars, or security lighting in my front garden, or camera surveillance, or even fake cameras as a deterrent (can burglars generally spot a fake?) I don't like not...

    Remote controlled external lighting?

well, certainly helps in that now I know it's feasible and doesn't sound horrendously expensive :) Need to decide what sort of light to use though, having Googled it there is quite a baffling selection and lots of people who champion each type over the others...

How safe is this front door lock?

Aha is that how it works? I'll have a go in the morning, I'll deadlock it, then go out, come in from the back door, and check whether or not it's still deadlocked from the inside. That does sound sensible, I thought it was more likely that I was being stupid than the lock manufacturers!
