Patio slabs tight to fence boards?

Defo 100mm Pea Shingle trench to seperate the 2. You ever know when you might need to replace a post.

    Tarmac Installation (old flower bed)

That shouldn't be a problem. You can screed the tarmac from the existing to get it nice and level and to follow any existing fall. Ensure you compact the Type 1 in layers.

    Paving slabs on soil

500kg of Type 1 will give 100mm sub-base. 200kg of Sharp Sand and 3-4 bags of cement should give a good strong mix at 50mm depth.

    Paving slabs on soil

Shingle doesn't compact, you need 100mm of Type 1 followed by a 50mm mortar bed.

    Garden path shuttering

75mm Sub Base of Type 1 followed by 50mm mortar bed will be sufficient for foot traffic. Wouldn't worry about an edging, the sides of the hole you dig for the sub base will be sufficient to stop lateral movement in the sub base material.

Do patio slabs really need to be placed on mortar?

Mortar creates suction between the mortar and the slab ensuring slabs stay in place it also ensures the finished surface adheres to sub base. A sand base will shift over time due to ground water and ants which will result in an uneven patio down the line. You will also have trouble with weeds...

    Patio cleaning

By 'bricks' do you mean Block Paving? If so, traditionally Kiln Dried Sand was used but it is now preferred to use a 1-4mm Joint Aggregate as it is more free draning and tends to stay in place bettter than sand. A bi-annual dose of glyphoshate weedkiller should keep the weeds at bay.

You might need to re-sand the blocks around the washed area afterwards.

    Patio cleaning

The weeds won't be growing up from underneath they are caused by seeds landing in the joints and germinating. Dry mortar will crumble and wash out next time the patio is cleaned. I would opt for a strong wet mix and apply with a pointing gun. Should stop the weeds. There are also various...

Gravels / red chips for subbase / MOT type1?

Agree with this. For the sake of a few 25kg bags of Type 1 I don't think it is worth cutting corners.

Gravels / red chips for subbase / MOT type1?

Type 1 has a range of sizes which ensure the material compacts. Chippings are generally single sized products which have no fines and won't easily compact. They stay more like a loose gravel. What are you intending to create the sub-base for?

Is this trade standard concrete patching...

Looks like whackered Type 1 which will probably be a temporary surface until they return with concrete. It is standard practice with water board reinstatement works to have a separate contractor to do the finishing. However, I would double check to make sure they are coming back. If not, it...

    Clean driveway pressure wash?

Make sure you fill the gaps between the blocks after cleaning. Most block paving jobs use free draining material such as 1-4mm Joint Aggregate . Kiln Dried Sand is rarely used now. Using Joint Aggregate over Kiln Dried Sand seems to be better in reducing weed establishment IMHO.
