What is the World coming to?

indus let's just agree to disagree on this one. Let me give you an everyday example..... If I go into the 'rough' part of town I can get clothing, groceries and household items at approx 60% to 75% of the price I can get them at the normal high street stores. Not everybody goes to those areas...

What is the World coming to?

That's my point here, the guy was hard work + I'm busy at present. Hence I increase my fee (not by 50%........more like 25% tbh). If he's willing to pay the fee, I'm then willing to deal with somebody who is gonna be a pain in the a** and also make time for him. Otherwise it's not worth my...

    Drainage layout query?

Thanks for the advice, appreciate the thoughts......'Builder to confirm / investigate' will be plastered all over the drawings. Woody, I'm learning.....give me a break

    Drainage layout query?

Afternoon all Have a client I'm doing the Building Regs drawings for, therefore will be doing a drainage layout but I'm a bit stumped (the house is a 1950's detached bungalow on a cul-de-sac). Been to the house and can't find any MH's whatsoever, not one on site at all. All the drainage...

    neighbours conservatory clear windows!

Fair point woody, altho I do suggest to the OP try talking to him about applying a frosted film in the first instance? He could also have a bit of strategically placed landscaping done? But tbh, I don't recall too many conservatories (I'm presuming this is a semi OP?) that are clear glazed on...

    neighbours conservatory clear windows!

Why don't you speak to the neighbour and ask if they would be willing to put on some obscure film (applies directly onto the inner window of the conservatory)? http://www.purlfrost.com/purlfrost.php It's not expensive and isn't permanent (I know they could peel it off, but I doubt they're...

What constitutes a start on site

So correct me if I'm wrong here but...... The demolition of the existing Garage is noted on the drawings and would have to be done prior ot foundation works etc. Therefore if the client demolishes the Garage, the 'material operation' has taken place and thereby works have begun? Once I...

What is the World coming to?

jeds - As I say I'm very busy at present, and tbh the client seemed like hard work. woody - I look at (in priority order) the amount of work I will have to do, value of the works, is the client gonna be hard work, how busy I am and value of the house.......as generally the wealthier they...

What is the World coming to?

Recently did a quotation for a client + I've been undercut on the fee drastically.....would like to know people's thoughts to see if I'm just living in a parallel world when it comes to fee's or otherwise. 3 bed semi in a good area of Leeds, property was bought for £155k 4 yrs ago (so maybe...

What constitutes a start on site

Afternoon all Hopefully due to get permission for a new build detached house for a client but want to be 100% on something. We have an existing garage on the site, it'll have to be demolished for the new house to be built (all as per the approval). Question is.....what constitutes the...

Permitted development- Thye corners aren't covered?

Agree that you will need PP for this, I just had a client who required an extension to a semi. It consisted of a double storey to the side + a 3m depth single storey 'filling in the corner' to the rear. At present the semi has a 3m depth single storey to the rear, so we we're proposing to...

Building regs - flues discharging on to adjoining properties

I don't know my friend, but I had to query the "back yard is fairly enclosed and fills with steam when the flue discharges" line. Is your back yard a shed? How can it fill with steam otherwise?

    Permitted Development Question

Fair point woody, but what if the 'professional' disappears a few years down the line.....you maybe left scrambling a bit? Cutting a few inches off a proposed extension isn't really a redesign is it? I guess it depends if the OP is gonna be using somebody who is reasonable, or alternatively...

Advice on disabled fire escape routes

Maybe others can advise, but I would have thought as long as you can get a MH cover that fully complies with Building Regs & BS then you should be ok. Just give your local Building Control dept. a quick call, explain the situation & I'm sure they'll provide guidance.

    Permitted Development Question

But if you're concerned you are 'breaking the rules' why proceed without anything in black + white? I'd suggest getting the Building Regs drawings done + use them to submit for a Cert. of Lawful Development. If they pick up the additional few inches, they pick it up. Then speak to the...
