Afternoon all

Have a client I'm doing the Building Regs drawings for, therefore will be doing a drainage layout but I'm a bit stumped (the house is a 1950's detached bungalow on a cul-de-sac).

Been to the house and can't find any MH's whatsoever, not one on site at all. All the drainage is at one side of the house, there's cross falls on the site also so it's fairly obvious where the MH 'should be' but can't see anything at all.

Been onto the local water authority (Yorks Water) and they only have record of the main combined sewer on the road to the frontage of the property.

Only suggestion I've had is put a camera down to locate the runs or check the title deeds as they may have a plan with drainage runs shown?

Any ideas at all here? I'm struggling

I worked with someone who used devining rods to find pipes and manholes.. but he was slightly insane..

The two options you have already said may be the best.. or assume no manholes and add one where you need to for your new connection..

The third option is to contract the plan drawing out to someone who knows what they are doing.

What would a client think if they are paying for professional services, only to find that the agent then asks others what to do on a forum?

A bit harsh Woodscrew!

There are many instances where the words "assumed line of drains" is used when there is doubt or simply no indicators on the surface.

Anything below ground has to have a degree of uncertainty just like with foundations and ground type/conditions. Words like 'builder to investigate' springs to mind.

Thanks for the advice, appreciate the thoughts......'Builder to confirm / investigate' will be plastered all over the drawings.

Woody, I'm learning.....give me a break

Bloody cheek - I can do it . Seeing as you`re in Sussex , do you know The Tye in Alfriston ? I was asked once to find a water main . All I got was loads of conflicting lines  . No they weren`t Ley lines - when the utility co`s came with their maps the place was criss crossed with electrics

Since it's a combined drainage system, all the rainwater gulleys will go into it so my first step would be to pull up all the gratings and get my hand in, feeling for the outlets. Take note of which way these point. If you're lucky, some (or all) of these invisible lines will converge on a point. That's where you look for a manhole. :) :) :)
