What have you been doing today?

That’s annoying. We have a security light thing above our garage (was already there when we moved in) but it points down at an angle so light doesn’t penetrate much further than the end of our driveway. I’ve been to Staffordshire a few times. Trained with the TA in Leek many years ago (the camp...

What have you been doing today?

Yes that is rather annoying. One of the downsides of residential areas!

What have you been doing today?

Strangford is lovely. We've only recently moved to County Down from elsewhere in NI and we're really finding ourselves spoilt for choice when it comes to places to visit!

It’s a village called Groomsport, in North Down, Northern Ireland. It’s a lovely place.

What have you been doing today?

Busy day for me today. Mrs was working so I decided to do stuff around the house. First went to Homebase to pick up a couple of stepladders to put up some lights in our back yard area. The LED flood lamps have burned out so I’m replacing them with solar powered LED PIR lamps, which I already use...

    how to remove damaged screws

Got the remains of top screw out by putting really tight vice grips around it then twisting it out. Bottom screw kept snapping when I did that and there’s not enough of it for a claw hammer to catch on. I’ll have to leave it where it is. Shouldn’t be too noticeable unless anyone actually goes...

    how to remove damaged screws

Tried again with vice grips on bottom screw, it snapped as I turned it and I was able to snap off top one. So all sorted now. The heads of the screws are still sticking out of the wall but I can probably go at those with a hacksaw.

    how to remove damaged screws

Hi everyone, See photos attached for what I am referring to here. When we moved into our new house there was one of these handgrip things outside the front door and another in the bathroom. I managed to remove the one in the bathroom, and I’m trying to remove the one at the front door. I have...

    Part P - can I fit a socket?

Surely he could have selected something nice looking if he was THAT worried about how it looked…. I’ve done a bit of DIY electrical work myself (as some people on this site will be aware) and I’ve always selected nice looking faceplates for switches and sockets etc. In fact, just recently we...

How to remove No More Nails!

Was it No More Nails adhesive pads or the glue? If pads have you tried a hairdryer/heat gun and a putty knife? I used this trick to remove a mirror that had been stuck to a wall with adhesive pads.

No More Nails Red Strips - Did they change them?

Well you must be buying stronger stuff than I have been. Past experience has seen things falling off within minutes of being attached.

What have you been doing today?

My dad came up today and helped me plane down some doors that were sticking, mostly because the previous owner of the house got them painted/varnished by someone who was a little overzealous. One door was actually sticking because the gripper rod and linoleum underneath were lifting by about 4mm...

No More Nails Red Strips - Did they change them?

My experience is that stuff is never strong enough.

No More Nails Red Strips - Did they change them?

I discovered the No More Nails “red” strips a while ago - these are the “Permanent” ones and I’d always had a lot of success with them - I’d used them to attach a monitor for a reversing camera inside my wife’s car, I’d used them to attach cable clips where the supplied adhesive pads had failed...

What have you been doing today?

Wife was working today (she’s a call handler for a Northern Ireland company) so I brought her cups of tea and made lunch. Now we’re clearing out the living room ready for the decorator to come tomorrow morning. Meanwhile the cats are wondering why we’re messing up *their* house again!

Twin + Earth - no sleeve on earth

Hi DIYers! I’ve recently been doing some DIY electrical work and have, of course used earth sleeve on my Twin + Earth cables. But here’s something I’ve always wondered - why do they not just supply the cable with earth already sleeved? Three core flex has the earth wire sleeved, so why not...
