    CH System - Choices?

Spoke to a sideways drilling company today to see roughly what it would cost to use a mole to drill a route for the pipe..........14 grand!!!! D

    Low Water Pressure

Just been looking at my new UU bill for the house we have recently moved into. No mains drainage, no surface water drainage and a 'private' water pipe back to their main. My bill is 780 quid a year and apparently I have no right of appeal. I wouldn't mind if they would connect me up to the main...

    Building Notice enough?

I want to remove a load bearing wall between living room and kitchen. I know it will need a steel going in and friend of mine can do the calls. Is a building notice enough for this change or do I need a full plan? The local authority website isn't clear which applies. Thanks D

    CH System - Choices?

When I spoke to UU they said 2 things. Firstly they are responsible for connecting me to their main but I need to get the pipe to their main. Normally this mend getting it out into the street. In my circumstance though it means getting it to the closest main a considerable distance away and...

    CH System - Choices?

Thanks Bellairaphon. To the stop tap its about 60 yards but to the main stop tap, i.e. where it connects to the United Utilities main is about a third of a mile or so. D

    CH System - Choices?

Apparently some of the wood burners can work with both vented and unvented systems. Would an accumulator be better than a break tank? Haven't given up on getting back to the main yet but it's looking like it will be costly!! D

    CH System - Choices?

Can't measure the pressure at the moment but the flow seems to be just over 4 litres per minute. Exploring ways of increasing this but options so far are not ideal, partly because we are on lead. Difficult to get back to the main and the other options of a break tank and pump don't get over the...

    CH System - Choices?

The reference to "accumulator" came from the suppliers of the wood burning stove; they suggested a 750 litre accumulator for hot water. They also say that they support both vented and unvented cylinders. I assumed they were the same thing. Wood burning stove can connect to both hot water and...

    CH System - Choices?

So plumber has been and we discussed the following configuration for updating our heating:- Keep the current boiler as its only 10 years old and seems to be in good order (serviced annually). Replace radiators with modern ones with new thermostatic valves - consider wireless programmable...

    Low Water Pressure

Thanks for the responses. Certainly some options I didn't know about. Still waiting for UU to let me know the closest place I could break into the main. D

    Low Water Pressure

I can measure the flow easy enough but how about the zero flow pressure? D

    Low Water Pressure

I have low water pressure to my property and United Utilities has confirmed that the reason is due to the fact that I am on a private supply which connects to the main a significant distance away. My supply goes back to a 63mm main using a 32mm pipe and the run is approximately a third of a...

    Replacing stone mullions

One set of windows in the house has had the stone mullions removed presumably to let in more light and to take advantage of the nice views. I believe this was done in the early 80's. The windows need replacing around the whole house so at some point I would like to address replacing the...

    Parquet Floor

Is it possible to lay parquet flooring over an existing wooden floor? My dining room has a traditional wooden floor consisting of floorboards. It is lower than the hall floor which it joins and I would like to lay parquet flooring over the existing floor. Is this an acceptable thing to do...

    Land Drain

Thanks. Completed it today, what a horrible job to do. The soil is mainly clay and it was sticking to everything all day long!! Pretty sure it is sorted now. D
