Building Control Notice for numpties (ie me lol)

Hi people, as ever I apologise if this is a recent stoopid question, but....I recently filled in one of these Building Notices.... http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=2501&p=0 I entered the work start date on part 4. Looking at the notes I see note 6 says "Persons carrying...

    Building Regulations - floor insulation

This is good to hear, as usual I had worried myself into a frenzy, thinking I was going to have to alter the front door to squeeze in metres and metres (slight exaggeration lol) of insulation. I have heard that Building Control are fairly reasonable as well....I guess I shouldn't worry lol.

building regs.......fee for materials only ?

Going back to the original part of the post, I recently put in a Building Control Notice for similar sort of works, and ticked the £1-£2000 box, only to find the kind people in our building control had changed it to £1-£5000 and added £100 to the fee   Gits lol.

    Building Regulations - floor insulation

Evening everyone, sorry to be a pain. 1990 build house, Block and Beam floor, Expanded Polystyrene (the white crumbly stuff), DPM and Chipboard....we're ripping the Polystyrene, DPM and Chipboard up as it's pretty wonky and shoddy, and we're hoping to create a nice flat insulated surface that...

    CELOTEX TIPS AND TRICKS

I have a circular saw, although it's only of the bog standard Argos budget variety, it does indeed have the vacuum attachment however. :)

    CELOTEX TIPS AND TRICKS

This might be a really stupid question (apologies if it is), but for the thinner thickness of Celotex, would a jigsaw do the trick? Also what ball park price/quality of respirator to go for? If I get some of this stuff, I might cut it at the bottom of the garden, don't fancy the kids...

    Floor Screeding for numpties?

Celotex perhaps? Would 25mm do, the polystyrene was 50mm? Orrrr will Building Control likely have something to say? lol. (I'm gonna have another word with them on Monday)

    Floor Screeding for numpties?

Sorry, I thought I'd already mentioned it on this thread when I hadn't lol The finished floor surface would indeed be tiles. :) The missus has her eyes on some slate effect porcelain jobbies.

    Floor Screeding for numpties?

I suppose I could do more than twice that area if I decided to do the living room at the same time....but between the missus and the kids I can't see that working out lol....maybe pack them off to the in laws for the weekend lol  . It's probably best I start off on a smaller area anyway...

    Floor Screeding for numpties?

....well I'm ripping out and adjusting some stud walls, if it was done as one area it would be appro 5m x 3.75m (plus about 2m x 1m for an area of hall/cupboard), but with the adjusted stud walls in (which I believe should go in first before the screed?) the biggest part would be about 3m x...

    Floor Screeding for numpties?

Thanks red, I'll use that cricket ball test :) , I'll maybe have a go on a practice go on a small scale area, and try and get used to instinctively knowing how much water to add. Next thing I've got to work out is which insulation is the best to use, I like the look of those marmox board...

    Floor Screeding for numpties?

Hello everyone, if you've read any of my other posts you'll know I have a very uneven Block and Beam type floor to deal with. In an ideal world, I'd love to just be able to chuck a bucket of some sort of self levelling stuff over it (I appreciate that's not as simple as I've made it sound lol)...

Rubber strip at the bottom of studwork

    Thank you Freddy :) .

Rubber strip at the bottom of studwork

Might this stuff be available off the shelf, or am I over thinking it and could a small strip of plastic sheet do the same job? (lol sorry, lacking confidence at the moment :? :) )

Rubber strip at the bottom of studwork

Not sure if this needs to be in building or woodwork, but hey ho lol. As I strip out my horrible wonky chipboard floor, I notice a stud wall is attached to the Block and Beam floor underneath with what looks like a plasticky/rubberised strip between the wood and the blocks....forgive my...

Self Levelling Compound onto Block and Beam type floor

Morning, in relation to tiling questions I have elsewhere, I thought I'd best ask this question for you wonderful knowledgable people to answer. Lurking underneath the horrid chipboard, we have what is I believe called a "Block and Beam" type floor (concrete beams and blocks slotted...

Rip it up and start again, rip it up and start againnnn!!!!

In the thread linked to above Richard C mentions this Marmox board stuff not needing a DPM as it's waterproof itself anyway? I'm fairly sure (I've had part of the floor up before and like the OP on the other post, it's bone dry) there's a DPM under the blockwork. And here's where my DIY...

Rip it up and start again, rip it up and start againnnn!!!!

Yeah....just looking and that Marmox board stuff looks quite good, looks like it provides a good waterproof insulation and base to tile on, doing away with the need for the whole horrible, creaky, slightly bouncy (in places) uneven, plastic sheet, polystyrene and chipboard combination. Has...

Floating floor replacement in a downstairs toilet.

Let us know how you get on Bob, it looks like you might have the same type of floor as us, and I'm desperately wanting rid of the horrible polystyrene/plastic sheet/wonky chipboard configuration in our kitchen.... http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=268741 A successful conclusion...

Rip it up and start again, rip it up and start againnnn!!!!

My search skills are improving, looks like we have a similar set up to this fella.... http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=265985 So according to Richard C, it looks like Marmox boards might be the answer....lay these down and tile over.
