hardibacker and plywood do I use both or not

no, you just use hardie. screw the floorboards down well first if they arent already

    external tiling

Hi. Fix them using a cement based tile adhesive. tell us what you have used so far and we can help to tell you if thats the right one. The important thing is to use the solid bed method of fixing instead of a normal notched trowel. A solid bed trowel will either have really big oval notches...

bathroom tiling under floor heating advice

nothing wrong with your plan at all apart from the solid bed - no real need to do this, you can just use a normal notched trowel and ensure full coverage. solid bed is usually reserved for fully wet areas, external fixing etc. Taping the joints and priming is fine, but unless its a wetroom is...

    Can clean won't clean

yep ok. you need a grout film remover if the dry cloth buffing doesnt work. its a common issue. ltp, lithofin, hg or fila all do one

    Can clean won't clean

sounds like grout residue. can you tell us the kind of tiles e.g. natural stone, porcelain, ceramic? you can try buffing with a dry cloth, if that doesnt work then depending on the type of tile you'll need a very mild acid based cleaner such as lithofin cement away

    Tiling onwood

Coming up an inch isn't an issue for the newer self levellers. granfix fibreflex can come up to 50mm in one go, and its great stuff to use. That said, you'd need a lot of it! you wouldnt need to float it out like you would a screed, you pour and guide it, and sometimes use a spiked roller to pop...

    Tiling onwood

IMO there are far easier\better (and prob cheaper) ways to achieve what you need. How much do you need to come up, and how big is the area? IS the concrete a new(ish) floor with a damp proof membrane?

    hows my tiling?

thats an old trick that used to be used quite a bit, the polish has to be high in beeswax content for it to work, and i dont think many are these days. You'd be better off picking up a commercial grout sealer TBH

    Removing old tiles then re-tiling?

Apologies on the dot and dab (although i did say mechanical fix too). I sell mostly no more ply. I see they are specifying a grab adhesive and mechanical. and of course i'm not saying they are wrong.

    Removing old tiles then re-tiling?

Just a word of caution - if you do patch it up, dont patch it up with bonding unless you intend to skim it. You shouldnt be tiling straight onto bonding, even if its primed first. Personally if you've got loads of it coming off then i'd follow the earlier advise, chisel it back, dot and dab...

Best thing to clean porcelain tiles?

Pop a photo on. Definitely not bleach. depending on the type, some household cleaners can strip the sealer, or cause a build up on the tiles. Sure we can help you if we know the exact kind of material we are dealing with

Best thing to clean porcelain tiles?

thats sort of where i'm heading. a common thing with porcelain or ceramic tiles that have just been fitted is that the tiler doesnt buff the grout residue off, no amount of mopping gets this off, you need to use a dry cloth, or if its been on too long or with certain tiles you use a MILD acid...

Best thing to clean porcelain tiles?

Have they just been fitted or have they been down a while? if this isnt grout residue from a new fitting, what kind are they? (photo may help). A microfibre, hot water and a product called easy care by lithofin may be the answer, but need to check if this is a sealing\new fitting issue first.

Bathroom floor tiling.......on old quarry tiles

Yes you can go over it, its not ideal, but its fine. If using UFH i would advise insulation board or you''l be heating both! The insulation board and tiles will add a lot of height, so assuming you can live with that, clean the tiles well, mix a slurry coat of acrylic bonding and floor tile...

    pub toilet tiles

Just be a bit careful. some public liability insurance etc have conditions attached to public areas and flooring so you might be outside of that for slip resistance etc, also they are likely to be only domestic grade from a wear point of view - that said sure they would be fine for a few years...

Tiling on to tanked vinyl flooring

your easiest way is to avoid the ply. remove the altro and overboard with no more ply or hardie

Preparing the wall for new tiles

i can't tell if thats render or bonding from that - if its render its fine, if its bonding or browning you can't (or shouldn't) tile over it

Yep thats altro. take it up and sort the subfloor

Porcelain polished tile on wall. seal or not. confused!

Its not so much a questionable thing, it varies by tile. Most polished porcelain needs sealing, but often these days the factories pre-seal them. Seal them after fixing, but before grouting, and once again after grouting (which also seals your grout). Look at lithofin, fila, ltp etc

Tiling on to tanked vinyl flooring

You can tile over vinyl if its really securely fixed and on a solid base but it sounds like your talking about altro flooring here. If the subfloor is squeaking etc that means its loose, and if its chipboard its not a good base anyway. Take the altro\vinyl up, overboard the chipboard with a...
