    Taking adhesive off quarry tiles

have a chat with LTP or Lithofin (casdron in the uk), its usually a tar like glue. They will have something that will help

    Another travertine thread

as AdamCh says its quite variable quality. i think they dabbled with lower quality stuff a while back and have now backed off it. You'll tend to pay a premium at topps. If you have the time\inclination order some samples online or go into your local independant. If your looking for a...

    Another travertine thread

Good trav is fine. Cheap trav that is full of holes isnt fine - honestly you get what you pay for. Watch out for cheap filled and honed as its mostly filler. Several companies, including myself sell good quality trav that has very few holes and is solid and relatively dense, we have no issues...

    tiling on wooden floor

No its unlikely to be down to the primer. 2 likely causes 1. the chipboard is waxed\coated (its usually green) or 2. there is too much movement. TBH chipboard is am awful base for tiling. Assuming the floor isn't bouncing and its all screwed down well, overboard it with no more ply or...

Grouting quarry tiles, to top surface or lip?

gotta say, after looking at the photos that lip really is close to the surface. You may well find that whatever you do its going to show through in places.

Grouting quarry tiles, to top surface or lip?

you should be able to get it flush using the normal way TBH, but you may be sponging off too early and with too wet a sponge. if you choose to point them, i'd use grout mixed a bit firmer rather than adhesive, the polymers are very different so addy is harder to wipe off

Grouting quarry tiles, to top surface or lip?

Seal the tiles before grouting (look at LTP, HG or Lithofin) Use a wide joint grout rather than a sand cement mix, grout as normal to the top edge (you wont have any choice on that one anyway). Sponge off as normal and let it mist over, then buff with a dry cloth. You are very likely to...

Tiling on top of existing tiles?

really wont matter either way. TBH just forget that the base is tiles once you actually start with the job. Lay your cuts properly to suit the new floor.

Tiling on top of existing tiles?

You can lay on top as long as you dont mind the increased level. Apply a slurry coat first - this is a mix of dry floor adhesive and acrylic bonding agent. just paint this on and let it dry, then tile as normal. Use a single part flexi adhesive.

    Ceramic vs Porcelain

Dont confuse better quality with adequate for the job. For a wetroom\shower, whatever you use its not the tiles that provide the waterproofing. the area needs to be tanked, or backerboarded before tiling whatever you choose. so again, the material doesnt matter. The only time porcelain is a...

    Will make all tilers redundant

ok, lets play ball for a moment. No they are unlikely to fall off. if you pressure on them or drill them they are likely to crack though. Firstly, theres no need to do it, most tubbed tile addys will stick to tiles and can be used to tile over tile. Silicone is more expensive, takes longer...

    Which grout do you recommend

Depends what your motives are. If you are looking to avoid staining then kerakol fugalite eco is as good as epoxy, cheaper and much easier to use - it also doesn't gas you half to death when using it. If your looking for a quality normal grout then the mapei is great stuff, and so is bal.

    Tiles dispute

Just putting aside the claim for a moment, what have you tried\what have they suggested in order to remove the marks? its very unusual for the protective marks to do anything to the tiles, but very often the marks can be fun to remove. What kind of tiles are they and do you have a photo?

    Tiling directly onto tiles

Any cement based (bagged) flooring adhesive will do this for you. By some acrylic or sbr tiling primer at the same time, just a small amount will do. Mix the primer with some handfulls of dry adhesive and paint it on the tiles. Let it dry and then tile over it. The primer and adhesive mix is...

    Slates onto concrete blocks

Sorry! No sealer and primer are different. the sealer is an impregnator really, its clear and soaks into the slate a little to close off any porosity. Look at Lithofin, LTP or Fila ranges. Nothing wrong with Ultra, its a popular trade choice.
