Hi Keith Thanks for pointing me at this thread from KugaOwners. It’s taken all morning to read right through. I’m knackered, but it’s a great read. Your patience and perseverance is to be applauded. We’ll done Kelwyn

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Your inverted advice is that I’d be no more at risk if I removed it and just used an isolater?

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

No it wasn’t cos it was £2!! It was because it was the same spec as the original AND I wasn’t convinced it was the root cause of the fault, but it had to be eliminated. As it happens the fault hasn’t been cured. So now I have proven it isn’t the RCD and I need to look elsewhere. AND I didn’t...

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Thanks John I totally accept that safety is paramount. Just out of interest I had quick look on Screwfix and was surprised to note that they sell populated consumer units. Some with AC and some others with Type A rcds I assume the type A is now the preferred choice for most domestic...

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Hi No I don’t consider cigarettes safe. However until legislation changes and cigarettes are banned, they will be sold. Question. Do you consider AC RCDs unsafe? I will accept that you wouldn’t install one in a new install. However does that mean every home, building etc that has them...

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Hi So it’s obsolete in manufacture? But not unsafe to use or replace like for like? It’s in a garage that has 8 sockets 6 lights on 2 switches And 2 external security pir lights Unless it becomes mandatory , no further action required

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Because it is readily available It complies with same safety requirements. It is physically compatible Why would anyone fit Michelin tyres to a car , that left the factory on Nexen? And there is no name on Consumer Unit housing. It contains 1 hagar RCD and 3 MCBs (2 Wylex and other). And...

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Hello Flameport It’s got the same markings as the my Hagar that is currently in situ. For £2 it’s got to be worth a try. Just paid for it. On my way home to fit. Incidentally why is it obsolete? Must still be safe or BandQ wouldn’t/ couldn’t sell it ? Actually it has same markings as the one...

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Hi ericmark That’s I am now. Would an RCD trip if there was a problem either incoming cable? So I’ve elected to buy a new RCD. Had a quick Google and found on the B&Q website a British General 43a device. It’s in their Clearance section priced at £2!!! So I’m off to get one at nearest...

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Hi The RCD is in the consumer unit in garage. I isolated the 3 circuits to check if it was 1 of the circuits causing the problem But with no wires connected, apart from incoming feed and extra earth, it still trips.

    Garage RCD Intermittant Tripping

Hi Problem with garage supply I have a small consumer unit in Garage. 1x 6a and 2 x 16a MCBs And. 63a RCD For no obvious reason the RCD trips I’ve isolated all circuits from CU. I.e. removed all neutrals and internal earths and turned MCBs off Still trips for no apparent reason Garage is fed...

    Outside socket protection

I’m not without some common sense gents. Cable is 2.5 t and e It’s on its own mcb and the consumer unit is RCD protected I checked all that before I asked. The origiginal RCD Spur device was left over from an earlier install I’m happy to fit a double pole fused switch

    Outside socket protection

The Timeguard unit was fused, so I took the belt and braces view. The difference in cost between fused or not is less than a £1
