living room renovation feat log burner and stepped ceiling

Hi, Looks like a good project, I'm about to embark on a similar one myself, swapping a gas fireplace for a stove. I've also got to widen the opening so I'm just looking at how people have installed new lintels

BBQ hardwood decking area, well it is winter..

Hi, Silva timber, they've a couple of showrooms and deliver. I managed to haggle a tiny bit on the price, think they send samples too.

    Kitchen worktop outdoors?

Hello, a bit of advice required, I've just finished my decking area http://www.diynot.com/forums/your-projects/bbq-hardwood-decking-area-well-it-is-winter.346641/ and would now like to turn my attention to the rear of the garage that is facing it. As you can see from the image below...

.....as an aside, I went for the Lithofin Slate sealer which has done the job. It will probably need re-applying every year but it brings out the beautiful colour of the slate.

The rear of the wall was also sealed with bitumen and a waterproof membrane which has made it a lot drier - no wet mortar is noticeable at all now. If anyone can recommend a...

I've treated the wood with a hardwood preserver which is meant to repel water. At the moment there's certainly no problem at all when the deck is wet. I'll be able to make a good assessment this time next winter after its been exposed to the elements for a year. A yearly power hose / coat of...

No I got a local bricklayer in. To be honest it was very hard to find one, no-one was interested in the work! I had a recommendation from my next door neighbour and he was very good. When I was pricing up the work myself it was about £500 more for the bricklayer and with a full time job /...

Retaining wall drainage - is it needed?

Hi everyone, I've built a deck within a retaining wall which can be found within the projects section http://www.diynot.com/forums/your-projects/bbq-hardwood-decking-area-well-it-is-winter.346641/ The wall has started to get a bit of algae growth with a small amount of mortar falling off...
