Best way of fixing slate copings

Sounds good, I'll score the back of the coping with an angle grinder as well to try and give it a bit more adhesion. So you simply paint the layer of slurry on and, while it's wet, bed it into the mortar mix?

Hi browfish, Did you sort this problem, I'm having the same issues with some slate coping. Any advice you can give would be great.

    Mortar Mix for slate coping

Thanks for the tip, just tile adhesive or would you mix some in with a standard mortar mix?

    Mortar Mix for slate coping

Hi all, I've had a wall built in my garden with some slate coping to finish it off. Unfortunately in the past 18 months this has all come loose and the builder has already replaced it but it again wobbles. I've added a drip groove to the underside of the coping as I think this might have been...

Gas Fire to Log burner in a house built by monkeys

Would you recommend the solid fuel grate, does it save that much on wood? It's a bit of a stretch for another £190 if the gain is only minimal.

Gas Fire to Log burner in a house built by monkeys

Hi, The stove's great, really pleased with it. I've purchased an EcoFan which helps to push the heat into the room so you use less wood (it actually works). I'm thinking of adding the multi-fuel grate so I can throw some coals on and keep the place cozy overnight.

Gas Fire to Log burner in a house built by monkeys

Hi Graeme, I've no idea, I'm not a stove fitter hence I've got someone in to do the job for me. If I do decide to take the stove when I move (never thought about that to be honest) it can be removed from the rear flue adaptor by two nuts (worst scenario). For anyone else reading this...

Gas Fire to Log burner in a house built by monkeys

As there was a delay on my stove the register plate was fitted and the recess boarded before connection of the stovepipe to flue. If the wall had been skimmed prior to connection then it would have been impossible to connect the two, ref dann09 post above.

Gas Fire to Log burner in a house built by monkeys

Hi Bahco, To use the old clichè, however much you want to spend. As an example, I was quoted approx £2000 for all the work. This consisted of £400 to open up the fireplace and cap off the gas supply, £640 for chimney lining and a pot, the rest being made up by labour costs, the hearth and...

Gas Fire to Log burner in a house built by monkeys

Hello everyone, It's been a while so I thought I'd post the finished pictures of my fireplace. It took a month for the stove to arrive, and another couple of weeks for the plaster to dry and paint (you can't plaster before the stove's installed as the installer needs access from the...

Power socket from a light switch?

Thanks for all the info guys. I ended up extending the current ring main and incorporating the new socket instead of bringing it off a spur. I felt this was neater and safer I had to use a junction box to extend a section of the ring which wasn't ideal but I used a 30amp one and made sure it...

    Insulating a suspended wooden floor

Thanks ill look into it. There's no longer an open fire but a wood burner is going to be installed next week (5kw). Do you know if it will make that much of a difference to insulate? It's quite a big and messy job and I'd like to know if its worth it before I start.

    Insulating a suspended wooden floor

Hi everyone, I'm renovating my front room (see my other posts) and I was recently under the crawlspace installing some electrics (1930's detached). We've had one winter in the house and to be honest it was f****** cold. The front room is north facing and there are 5, large, airbricks for...

Power socket from a light switch?

Thanks Owain, did exactly that. Luckily my SDS drill broke through just at its limit. I've chiseled out the new socket and run the cable back to the consumer unit (which is where the entrance to the crawlspace is) - crawling through is not nice at 6"2 and 210lbs. I've got my plasterer...
