Do all electricians put rubbish under flooring?

You find some great old stuff under floorboards. Interesting to see how much packaging has changed over the years on fag packets, crisps, etc. I found these.

    Route for new socket?

Nothing wrong with these places. It's the ignorant morons who go looking for gear without doing any research first and then expect to be spoon fed technical advice from people who are basically unskilled shop workers.

    merlin gerin contactor problem

Very weird set up this one. Why would a site electrician get someone with no knowledge of contactors, timers or control circuits in to do the job. I think an electrician is required, not a DIY forum job.

    merlin gerin contactor problem

MG timers are simple to use. Push the two buttons with the hand symbol between to manually operate the contacts. As RF says, where is the 24v supplied from?

Retraining to be Electrician, any point?

I think you will need a more positive attitude to succeed in this trade or any other. The whole idea is to study hard, train hard and work hard to make yourself BETTER than all of the average Joes around the place. Then the work will come your way.

    New shower cable

Spark123 did you see the photo of the CU earlier in this thread? It looks like the MCB and base have been fitted together as it appears to be orange.

How easy is it to replace a CU/do a rewire?

Abbreviations used by electricians are usually more of a problem for non electrical folk. :D

    Guess what I did today

I pulled out an old recessed fusebord in a nursing home only to find myself looking straight into the bedroom on the other side of the wall. The db was the same thickness as the wall and the back of it had been skimmed! A bit plasterboard and wallpaper put it right but I wish I had got a pic of...

    New shower cable

You will also need a new 45A pull cord switch as the one you have now will probably be burned inside. That's what the fishy smell is.

    Pipe clamps and swa cable

What was the original question again? :D Anyhoo, I have never come across AWA cable, HV use maybe? Most of the larger single core cables I have worked with, 300 and 500, have all the components of SWA cable but no actual armour, used for large submains.
