    Water Softener and Boilers (again)!

Thanks for the very quick reply. The boiler is an Ideal Icos HE24. I'm am assuming that the mini header tank in the loft is a feed/expansion tank for the heating circuit but maybe it's not. Are you saying that the whole heating system should sealed? If so I wonder what the header tank is...

    Water Softener and Boilers (again)!

I know this subject has been covered before but I am trying to find a solution. I have a new-ish house with a Megaflow and an Ideal Condensing boiler. The water quality in our area very hard and I would like to fit a water softener e.g. Kinetico 2020c Hi-Flow. However, a big label on the...

    Shower bar thermostat fitting

They look like the bits I need. Does anyone know how they are fixed to the tiles?

    Shower bar thermostat fitting

So is it normal practice to stick them on? The valve has two chrome cone shaped parts covering the pipes and these are the only bit that actually touches the tiles. So the mastik has to grip a thin circle of metal. The builders plumber has now restuck the valve to the wall but I am...

    Shower bar thermostat fitting

Is it normal practice to fit a shower bar type thermostat to the tiles but sticking with mastik. I know there are special nrackets available but out builder reckons sticking it is normal. The reason I ask is that our thermostat has come loose and the plumber has just returned to stick it up...

    Water Softener Installation

Thanks for the info and it makes sense about the overflow being visible. I would prefer under the sink as that is where the rising main is (22mm). The models I have seen will all fit and have access at the front to load the salt. I have seen the Permutit ones in B&Q costing £480 for a metered...

    Water Softener Installation

I'd like to install a water softener under the kitchen sink. Our house has 22mm pipe work and is a pressurised water system. A couple of questions please. 1) The softener requires an overflow, usually through the outside wall. Is it acceptable to fit the overflow into the normal waster outlet...

    Window Lock Keys (again)

We are looking for stock of a key to suit our uPVC windows. All the windows use the same lock. I was told they may be Cotswold but I can't find any further information. Any tips as where to buy a bunch of replacements would be gratefully received. Hopefully a picture below will help...

Megaflow airgap and water running ?

Hi, by Tundish, do you mean the exposed overflow that gusshes water as you keep the temp/press valve open during airgap regeneration? If so, I will keep an eye on it after it has dried out from the regeneration. Thanks I'll also take a look at the outside overflow if I can find it ...

Megaflow airgap and water running ?

I have a 2 year house with a Megaflow system installed. It has been faultless but recently we have been hearing water running somewhere in the house. It happens at random and lasts for a just a few seconds. There is no sign of any leaks, I have checked all the toilet valves etc and no taps...

    Split Spindle Supplier

Can anyone suggest a retail supplier of split spindles to fit ERA multi-point doors please? Tha manufacturer does not supply retail and our local stores are reluctant to order on our behalf. In our road we have 6 or more houses who want these parts to change the way the front and back...

    Heating System Modification

By the way, is it just a matter of moving the control wire that goes to the upstairs zone and screwing it on the same terminal as the downstairs zone wire - in the airing cupboard junction box. Presumably there thermostat switch can run both as they are relatively low current valve motors.

    Heating System Modification

Thanks for that. Currently the hall rad does not have a TRV as it's near the thermostat running the upstairs. Also the two rads in th elounge do not have TRVs either but I will probably put them on to control the temp.

    Heating System Modification

My central heating has 2 zones, one upstairs ans one downstairs. The thermostat for the upstairs is in the hall and the thermostat for the downstairs is in the lounge. The problem is that when the lounge is occupied (especially when the gas fire is on), the downstairs tends to get cold. I...

    Mad central heating logic !!!

Thanks for the reply, just to clarify the stat for the upstairs zone is downstairs in the hall not on the upstairs landing. I have already very nearly shut off the un-trv rad in the hallway so the stat keeps the heating on for longer allowing the upstairs rads to run up to their trv...

    Mad central heating logic !!!

Can someonwe please explain the logic behind the central heating system in my new house? The condenser boilder has 2 zones....... Zone 1 is for the downstairs (except hall) and is controlled by a thermostat in the lounge which has 2 radiators without TRVs. All the other downstairs rads...

    Keep getting zapped !

Thanks guys, I thought a number of my findings were spurious and not related. I will get onto the builder about the boiler fuse blowing etc (it definately blew at the same time as I got a shock in the upstairs bedroom or at least very close as my Wife was in the utility area and heard it...
