    Boiler Engineer Recommendation

Can anyone recommend a good boiler/heating engineer who operates in the wigan area. The boiler is a Potterton Suprima 40L. I would be looking for someone to perform the following work: Boiler Service Unvented Cylinder check. (Never checked in the 3yrs we have owned the house) Potential...

Water drip in tundish unvented cylinder

I have an unvented Santon cylinder. When water is being heated there appears to be a small water drip through the tundish. Is this normal?

    Fitting an Auto-by pass Valve

I am thinking about replacing an bypass which is currently operated via a Gate valve, with an Auto Bypass vlave. Is this a difficult DIY job? Also I believe that the pipe work for the current by-pass is in 15mm. Is it easy to source 15mm auto bypass valve? Or is there another solution?

    Potterton Boiler Cycling

Thanks Agile for your response. Ultimately I am happy with the temperature in my house. However I was trying to understand my system and see if it could be more efficient. I was under the impression that the temp setting on the boiler regulated the flow temp between 55 - 82 degrees. I...

    Potterton Boiler Cycling

Just an update and a few extra questions. I calculated the output of my radiators to be 7.6 Kw in total. I am however not sure what the output of the Suprima 40L is. Can anyone provide this info. I also found out that the Mechanical stat in the lounge is not that accurate, which wasn't...

    Potterton Boiler Cycling

thanks boilerman. I was wondering if it was right for it to cycle that much. What determines how much it will cycle. Can anything be done to stop it cycling so much. House does get warm but I am not sure the boiler is operating that efficiently. The boiler supplys 1o radiators and cylinder...

    Potterton Boiler Cycling

I have some questions about boiler cycling. I have a potterton Suprima 40L. When the boiler has been on for about an hour or so constant and the radiator are really warm the boiler seems to cycle alot. Is this normal? it generally only stays on for 4 mins and then off for about the...

    Central Heating Balancing query

D_Hailsham, Thanks for all your info. I too wondered if it was too if air could be collecting there. It is a screw on top, I was going to post in a separate post cause I have tried to open it to vent out air, but have been unable to get it open! That is in the region of where the...

    Central Heating Balancing query

Sorry you say that the pipes look like they have leaked. Having assessed the pipework, I have not noticed any leaking I thought the mess on the pipes was where solder had been dripped on the pipework

    Central Heating Balancing query

To answer your question I missed, I would say that the height is approx 1.8 - 2m. I can see your issue with identifying the pipes as I am struggling just looking at the picture in work. I will have a go. The 3 pipes from the pump from left to right are: 1) CH - radiator flow 2) HW -...

    Central Heating Balancing query

There is a picture on page 1, does it show what you require? The bubbling in the pipework in the region of the pump and then in the 1st radiator immediately after the pump. it occurs when the boiler fires up. I opened up the LS on that radiator a bit and it is less noticeable! It also...

    Central Heating Balancing query

D_Hailsham, Thanks again I checked and there is no vent pipe on our CH system. The F/E tank only has 3 pipe. Cold feed, Overflow and pipe in bottom which I assume is for feeding and expanding. I did notice that some of the radaitor LS appear to be on the flow side. Could this cause air...

    Central Heating Balancing query

D_Hailsham, thanks again for your advice. I took your advice and open the bypass another 1/4 turn and on pump overrun, the pump runs fine now. This morning I confirmed that all the radiators get really hot when both CH and HW are ON. I am still concerned about the bubbling sound in the...

    Central Heating Balancing query

To provide an update: I have the bypass gate valve, so that it open about 1/4 turn. By feel the pipe is still warm on the return side of the gate valve. My only concern is when the pump is in overrun, therefore both motorised valves closed the pump seems a later louder like it is...

    Central Heating Balancing query

To update, I have closed the gate valve on the bypass, its now open about 2 turns. I was conservative. All radiators get warm still. Not balanced the cylinder yet, but dropped the pump speed to 2 and all radiators still get warm. I think I should balance the radiators properly, rather than...

    Central Heating Balancing query

Agile, thanks again. I do value all your advice. I wanted to make sure that it was a bypass before adjusting it. I will follow your advice for the cylinder 1 1/2 turns and check after 10 mins when both HW. Expecting Cylinder return to approx 10 degrees cooler. Adjust bypass as per your post...

    Central Heating Balancing query

Over the weekend I attempted to balance my radiators as follows: Work out order radiators warmed up. Closed lock shields on all radiators. Open the 1st 3 radiators by 1/4 turn, next so many be 1/2 a turn up to last radiator which is open 2 turns. I then turned on central heating and walked...

    Central Heating Balancing query

Thanks Agile for your reply. The boiler is a Potterton Suprima 40L (Temp setting at 60% ish). Pump is Wilco Gold 50. Tank is unvented Santon 150 Litre. Before closing bypass I wanted to check that I is a bypass, I believe it is. I have attached an image. All 3 gate valves are...
