    Little bits in my Satinwood

Yes the windows were open as I didn't want to inhale all the fumes. And I live on top of a busy road. I guess that's my answer. Many thanks.

    flagging patio without hardcore

Wabbitpoo. When you say no need for a sub-base if it is only for foot traffic. I put a small patio down for the out laws, before I started we had an argument because I insisted on a compacted MOT Type1 sub base; 75mm. He wasn't happy because he said it didn't need a sub-base. After...

Vertical sleepers as a retaining wall

I think the logs would give a much slicker profile and definately easier to install. BTW, Unilog; 2400 x 100 = £5.28 You would need 2 Unilogs to get the same width as 1 sleeper, therefore, 2 x Unilogs = £10.56, 1 x sleeper £14.95, so the Unilog is about 30% cheaper. Also, the Unilog...

Vertical sleepers as a retaining wall

I'm going to use vertical sleepers as a retaining wall. Will I need to fit geotextile to the back of the sleepers, then some shingle and then backfill with earth? I thought the geotextile would prevent seepage of earth getting through the gaps. Thanks.

    Cutting sleepers

Thanks to everyone for your help. Thanks spr0cket, the link to the circle of sleepers proves it can be done. I was thinking of chamfering down each side of each sleeper so each sat snug next to it's neighbour - but I don't think I will need to as they haven't in the example you have sent...

    Cutting sleepers

The sleepers would hold the earth back as per the attached dwg. Looks like I'd have to settle for the top profile of the sleepers stepping. I could secure the 1st sleeper, put the next in place and measure, take it out and cut it, then cement it in place and then work my way around. I'd...
