    Are all flush valves crap???

i put a drop valve in (from b&q) was 13 quid and i learned that if you tighten the plastic backnut to the flush button inside the cistern too tight then when you push the button to flush it doesn't come out again!

    siphon nuts? tight?

is it true that when changing a siphon, if you don't tighten the siphon nut tight enough (ie with water pumps) then when the cistern is replaced water will leak out of the back of the pan where the cistern sits?!!!

immersion heater wiring - need to be cleared up please!!

thanks Steve. so basically the book was wrong!! a 13 amp fuse is correct in the socket? also, i know a 2.5mm flex is the correct size to use for an immersion heater (so this too being written as 21amp) is incorrect!!

immersion heater wiring - need to be cleared up please!!

sorry but i need to clear something up for piece of mind!! an immersion heater has its own radial circuit from the cinsumer unit, usually rated at 16amps (mcb) - twin and earth runs from this to a double pole-switched socket near the heater? correct? in my socket i have a cartridge fuse...

    Grrrrrr, god damm leaking cistern!!

from my experience of changing siphon's in close coupled cisterns, the donought washer plays a massie part!!! any slight tear or nick in it and you will get water-usually dripping behind the back of the pan, escaping through the wing nut holes. was the donought washer in good condition...

    immersion heater fuse rating?

sorry i meant i read: a 15amp fuse must be used for an immersion heater, and mine is only 13amp!! I was worried but realise now that the 15amp fuse or 16amp mcb is for the consumer unit and as you have just confirmed to me, the 13amp fuse is for the socket near the heater! i wonder if you...

yes you're right, if using 3 then the 4th tapping will be capped off. as you say though 2 will more than likely be used nowadays anyway.

    immersion heater fuse rating?

yes it runs from the immersion heater to the outlet in 2.5mm heat resistant flex!! Thanks for your help here-I just wanted to know why it said 15amp fuse when my old one is 13amp and i didn't want anything to go wrong with it and become dangerous!! I take it the 15amp fuse/16 amp mcb is in...

    C-PLAN hot water valve?

good point about water not circulating preventing the heat increase. i suppose as you say there is more room on the return between the cylinder and when the cold feed enters. thanks for your help on this. is it also true that an injector tee MUST used on a solid fuel boiler when gravity hot...

    C-PLAN hot water valve?

i know the vent is on the flow side, and obviously no valves should be on it, so i get your point. also the cold feed from the f & e on a c plan joins the primary return from the cylinder and no valves must be on this either! if the 2 port was after the vent T but before the cylinder instead...

    C-PLAN hot water valve?

a quick question - why is the motorized valve (2-port) on the Return between the cylinder and boiler on a c-plan system (gravity hot water) - why can't it be on the flow? Does it make a difference? Was reading about it and it didn't state why! WOuld be interesting to know if anyone knows why?

    immersion heater fuse rating?

sorry i don't know why i wrote that! of course it's taken directly from the CU - I meant a switched unit not a spur switch!!!:) I thought as well as in the CU there was supposed to also be a fuse in the actual unit near the immersion heater? for added protection ? this being my point-why a...
