what are hte common call outs for self employed plumbers - esp the on call 24hour ones! just wondered out of interest-cos i've called plumbers in for many a thing in my life!!!

be careFul there are many typeS of push-button toilet valves (syphons) - i know a lot are 1.5 inch but some are 2 inch as mentioned. you will be better off taking your existing syphon (valve) to a plumbers merchant (not b and q or wickes)!! and asking for a like-for-like replacement!! :)

yeah i guess i am!lol what i am trying to understand though, is, the hot water from the boiler tee's into the primary cold feed water, and this water goes through the pump and into the hot water cylinder/central heating flow!!! just wondered how the cold was kept out as there is no service...

they shouldn't leak unless you havwn't tightened the nuts up properley?!!!!

i read that a little bit of water now and again evaporates from the primary circuit, and the feed tops up tiny amounts ocassionally when needed. i guess this wouldnt really lower the hot water temp much, if anything.

oh i see, you can buy new kits with new buttons, etc. i know what you mean in a way, some of the flush toilets have like wires joining up, where my sisters hasn't, the button just lowers and pushes the top of the valve! all 1 and a half in ch though which is standard i believe!

yeah i see if they were on the positive side water could be pumped out over the vent pipe maybe? one little thing i am trying to understand though is won't cold water from the primery feed be put into the central heating/cylinder flow circuits, thus reducing the temp?? btw not on the...

ok that makes sense nw, cylinder return meets heating return under floor and return to boiler together. like a circuit. thanks for help. just one last question if i can ask: why are my prim feed and vent joined together? is this common??

another point, my prim return from hot water cylinder is obvkiously out of the bottom of the cylinder, but where does the heating return join this (under the floor)!! just curious! one thing also is my prim flow to the cylinder is not in the top 3rd of the cylinder as recommended, it's barely...

thanks for advice. so with a surrey flange i can con nect the supply to the shower from the side and the original vent/hot ditributing connection ontop.

OK, I NEED TO CLEAR UP A POINT. is it worth installing a surrey flange to supply a dedicated hot supply to a mixer shower (non-thermostatic). Or is it better off just taking a t-off from the normal hot feed (although slightly higer than the hot feed to the bath/basin)? a dedicated cold feed...

so what do most plumbers do when installing a new bath? just use 4x2's??

what about a cradle? don't baths come with these? i heard somewhere that baths needed to be supported along a wall on their length? just don't want it to go through the ceiling!!!
