    Electric Planes

Thanks. I have a few doors to fit, and since posting, I have been using a normal hand plane which I have found that I can use far easier and much quicker than the electric one. The electric plane needs a lot of effort just to hold the trigger button in!

    Electric Planes

Hi, Can anyone tell me if there are any real benefits from a cheap plane to a dearer one? I've borrowed a Performance Power brand (B&Q?) from my friend, which I think was about £30, and it is very very noisy. Would dearer ones be any quieter? Any help or sugestions would be much appreciated...

    Internal Door Sizes

Hi, I need to replaced the doors in my house but I cannot seem to find any in the sizes I need from the usual DIY shops (B&Q, Homebase). The only one I found was in B&Q but it was the hollow type door. I dont want this type as this is what I'm replacing. I would like to get the 4 panel...

    GU10 LED bulbs

Thanks, I will have a look at 12V lights in the future. For the meantime, I will be looking for new branded 240v bulbs, as the cheap ones dont last too long.

    GU10 LED bulbs

What's the benefit of using low voltage? Is it because it uses transformers to reduce the voltage and therefore less electricity is used when comparing with a 240V 50W bulb?

    GU10 LED bulbs

Hi, I know this has been covered before, but has anyone bought some recently? I'm thinking about getting some to replace the 4x35w bulbs that are in use at present, but I am a bit wary of how much light the LED's will give out. There seem to be a few about containing from 12 - 30+ LED's. I...

Removing old tiles from plasterboard walls

I used a scraper (about 3" wide), a rubber mallet and a flat screwdriver. Oh, and a pair of safety glasses. (bits of tile can fly everywhere) You need to try and get behind the tiles, so I found that if I scored out some of the grout first with the screwdriver then I could get the scraper to...

Replacing a cooker switch/single socket query

Hi, Can I remove the cooker switch/single socket and replace it with a double socket instead? I ask as I don't have an electric cooker and never will, and an extra socket would be of great use. I understand that the electrical cable comes straight from the consumer unit, and not on the...

    mondeo using lots of fuel

Has the car had a service recently? If the air filter hasn't been changed for a long time then it will contribute to poor fuel consumption, as too can old oil and incorrectly (low) inflated tyres. What kind of driving do you do? short journeys will also make fuel consumption worse...

    Advice on cutting worktop please

hi, I have a new gloss style kitchen worktop and I need to cut a into 3 peices. What's the best way to cut it? Do I do it face down or up? I just need to do straight cuts. Tool-wise I have a circular saw, now, I am a bit confused as to what blade to use. one blade is 24 teeth and...

    wall prep??

Hi, I am going to tile all around the bath tub upto the ceiling. I have removed the old tiles that were tiled only two rows high. My query is that I have plasterboard walls and when I removed the old tiles, in places, some of the outer plasterboard (card bit - not sure on terminology here)...

    Replacing water damaged floor boards.

Hi, I need to replace part of the floor board in the bathroom which has suffered from water damage when the cistern leaked. At present it is 18mm chipboard, which is what I intend to use. Do I need to put some sort of water proof sealant on the board before I put the carpet back? I ask as...

    Condensing Combi Boiler

I have had this unit installed 6 weeks ago. It seems to be OK, but then again I dont have much experience of combi condensing boilers as our old system was a storage type (which took over 5 hours to heat the tank of water from cold) I can tell you that my home is an end of terrace, has 4...
