Hello, We went into the subfloor and no pipes under neath. Could this maybe be a start of rising damp occurring maybe?

    Damp floorboards when it rains...

Not silly at all! We do but 3 different roofing companies have said nothing is wrong with the roof otherwise we would see staining on the walls could it just be that gap and we should seal it up somehow?

    Damp floorboards when it rains...

See photos. Took off laminate when it rained this time and yeah could wet it being wet under the skirting board (see photo) looks like the floorboards are wet too. Not sign of roof leak or pipe leak or faulty pointy. What's the next steps?? Reckon this is rising damp? No other marks on walls above

    Water Ingress - help!

Yeah I did ask a roofer if the gap by the bay window flat roof was causing the ingress and he said not really possible! Between the vent it's just cavity. There insulation between the cavity but not where the leak is.. Is there some sort of company that detect water like thermal imaging maybe??

    Water Ingress - help!

In the past maybe yeah, I've had two qualified (CSRT) PCA registered damp surveyors out though who have said there is no damp present there! The airvents were put in for subfloor ventilation, there are 3 at the front and 3 at the back. No issues of water ingress from any of those apart from this...

    Water Ingress - help!

Hello everyone, Having a nightmare with our new FIRST house to say the least! We noticed some bubbling on laminate, when it rains - downstairs living room (right at the bottom of the skirting board becomes damp- never above) but completely dries out when it's sunny so it's definitely water...

    Damp original floorboards - why?

1930s house that was renovated around 20 years ago they even replaced most of the joists and put vents in. They did extend though so the wall across is the kitchen yep. We even had builders go down who there was enough ventilation. Ahhh so very frustrating might have to get another person to...

    Damp original floorboards - why?

Hi All, Took off laminate in hallway, discovered that a number of floorboards are discoloured and the screws are rusty. Suggests to me moisture? I have attached pictures. This is under the stairs. The wall beneath the backs back on to a garage wall which is a step down. There was what looked...

    Wet walls

Hello, Bit of a funny one, I have moved and painted this room a have noticed the paint is dry literally everywhere but not all the top of the wall all across the wall. (Refer to picture, it's wet all along just below the pink line at the top) it doesn't face an exterior wall - the wall behind...

    Musty smell hallway/dining room

Thanks for the tips everyone, I've been keeping the cupboards open to air them out and it's made a big difference - I might paint too and see how it is and if it still smells will look into ventilation. Regards to the risen floorboards and damp skirting board in the other room I think it's due...

    Musty smell hallway/dining room

Redundant chimney needs to be ventilated - how can we ventilate this?? Yeah our surveyor did say there was some condensation in that room but nothint required treatment. We have another one that doesn't have doors and it doesn't smell at all! Outside is fine, a couple of airvents outside. One is...

    Musty smell hallway/dining room

I think we need to take the laminate off. The bubbling is due to water coming through I think - needs repointing.... we thought it was from the radiator but the plumber said there is no leak so it's not from the radiator

    Musty smell hallway/dining room

Hello everyone, Newbie to DIYnot. Bought a house and it smells as soon as you walk through the door. Fine upstairs. At first we thought it was the newly painted dining room giving off a weird smell however I noticed a strong smell coming up from the boarded fire place that was used as a...
