How long to have immersion tank on for?

Hi guys, Ive recently moved into a house. It has an antiquated immersion cylinder. I have it heat itself for about 30 minutes each morning - I only need it to do a bit of washing up each morning before work. However, recently the water has been coming out only luke warm. Yesterday I tried...

    putting kickplates in the kicthen

Thansk Foxhole. Can you recommend anywhere? Ive just checked HomeBase and they sell kickplates although it looks like its brand name only (I presume if you have a Samsung over then they sell the Samsung kickplate), I cant see any generic ones. Ill have a closer look later.

    putting kickplates in the kicthen

Hi guys, I recently had a new kicthen floor laid. The guys had to take off the old kickplates around the kitchen units so they could lay the floor under the units. The kickplates were really old and falling to bits, so I need some new kickplates. Is it a simple case of going to a shop to buy...

    Hanging picture on plasterboard

The plasterboard is nailed to the stud work (my mate did it). I did take a photo of the stud work to remind me exactly where the studs(?) were in case I wanted to hang a picture on the wall but I lost the photo!

    Hanging picture on plasterboard

Hi guys, I have a framed picture (normal size, probably around 50cm x 30cm) that I want to hand on plasterboard. Ive read articles online about this and they mention you can get special fixings to use to hang pictures on plasterboard. What do you guys suggest? Thanks

Hi guys, Im new to all this (as will become apparent!). Im after some matt paint to do some interior wood panelling, skirting boards etc... I know what colour paint I want (Jasmine White). A few questions: - What's the 'mattest' type of paint - is it egg shell or vinyl matt? - Is it...

    A good tyrolean mix

Hi guys, Ive just hired a tyrolean gun. Ive never done this before. I presume I need some sort of sand/cement mix. Is there a magic ratio? Would it be better for me to upload a photo of the existing tyrolean render so you can see? Thanks

Kitchen floor - what to choose?

hi guys, Ive dug up the old kitchen floor back to the concrete base. I want a cottagey feel. Its small - about 8m squared. I dont really want lino or laminate because both look and feel a bit cheap - but solid wood is working out too pricey. I think tiles may be a bit noisy and cold...

    Rendering on cob

Hi guys, I have a 200 year old house. The render has blown around a window frame. I was told by a neighbour that Ill need to make up a lime/cement mix for the render (and then use a tyrolean gun to match it to the original wall). The wall is nearly all cob. Does anyone on here have...

Secondary glazing handle is now slipping!

I dont think theyre faulty. Im sure I saw a video on YouTube which shows that the handles can be adjusted to suit height, but Ive spent the past 30 minutes googling and cant find it! Just for clarification, this is the glazing I have...

Secondary glazing handle is now slipping!

Wow - thanks for the fast reply! Im sure these handles must be adjustable (I presume some people may want the handle to be at the bottom). The glazing has only been in for a few months and hardly used, so the handle hasnt been worn out. Ill have another look now...

Secondary glazing handle is now slipping!

Hi guys, I have secondary glazing, and now one of the handles is slipping - ie: I want it vertically aligned to the centre, but the handle just drops and is loose in its groove. Is there a way it can be held in position? I thought this video might help, but it doesnt...

Is this safe to knock down?

tim00: I dont think that is a hefty lintel. It does look like it in the photos, but up close its just a bit of wood. If it is a lintel then it cant be holding up much - it doesnt even look like its nailed into anything (its hard to tell).

Is this safe to knock down?

Bodgeitandleggit: ha ha -youve got a keen eye! Actually, thats a little toy I was bought. Its a small model of a lady that - when you add water - increases in size (I assume its made of some sort of sponge). I havnt opened it and its been left on the fridge for the past 6 months! Maybe I should...

Is this safe to knock down?

Hi guys Here are some photos: This is obviously showing the stairwell: http://www.versatileinsurance.co.uk/a.JPG This shows the little landing at the top (left and right are doorways into the bedrooms. Those cupboard doors opposite is the airing cupboard)...

Is this safe to knock down?

Maybe I should take some photos from the 'stairs' side. Basically the stairs go up and then theres a small landing (1m x 1m - ish) with a door leading to the bedroom on the left, and a door leading to a bedroom on the right. Theres no landing halfway up the flight (its a small 2 bed cottage)...
