    Sequential or dual control shower?

Hi Im looking to buy a new shower and have a few questions: 1) What are the downsides to a basic sequential shower? Im not fussed having a dual control shower as Ive always wanted the shower on full blast all the time. So sequential shower is best (and cheaper)? 2) I like the look of...

    External lights with PIR sensor

Hi all, Im looking for 2 external lights - both with PIR sensors. Ideally Id like a bulkhead style, but I cant find one with a PIR sensor. Am I able to fit a PIR sensor to any external light or can I only choose a light where the PIR sensor is integral? I want to go with the more...

    Are old windows worth anything?

Hi Im getting all my windows replaced on a cottage. There are 6 vertical sliders and 6 casement windows. Are the vertical sliders/glass/weights etc worth anything? (to a reclamation yard for example). Or is it best to let the window company dispose of them? Thanks

Is 1850mm too short for a shower cubicle?

Hi all, Im shopping for a quadrant shower. Ive found a few that I like, however it seems the cheaper ones are 1850mm high. For another £80 I could get a 1950mm high one. Is 1850mm normal height for a shower? (I dont want to buy one and then find water splashes outside the enclosure!) Thanks

Is there an app that replicates light?

Yes, I saw those stage light apps. It seemed like an obvious app to be available, almost like a torch app that emulates different bulbs and wattages. But I guess noones had the need for it. Ill have a google and see what people have done to light small hallways.

Fitting shower next to a window - good idea?

Thanks guys. I think the solution is in one of the links youve provided (either another screen, or blinds covering the whole window). If everyone was piling in saying "definitely dont do it...." then it would give me pause for thought. Ill take a photo later anyway so you can see the situation.

Fitting shower next to a window - good idea?

Yes, the window is the length of the bath. The window's aperture also has splayed sides. It looks out over a field, but there is a road about 50 yards away, so its not completely discreet! I suppose the easiest solution is to just have a blind that covers the entire window aperture, something...

Fitting shower next to a window - good idea?

I have a small bathroom. The only place I can fit the bath is on a wall where theres a big window and the sill is about 600mm from the floor. The window is very wide - about the length of the bath. I want a shower over the bath. Obviously Ill tile the window sill and around it. My concern is...

Is there an app that replicates light?

Hi, Im having new lights fitted throughout a house where Ive changed the floorplan. There will be a pendant light over the stairs; but at the top of the stairs theres a hallway on the left which the stairwell light wont reach, so its going to be a 'dark spot'. Its a small spot - maybe 1m x 2m...

Alternative to pop-up waste for a basin?

Im buying new taps for my bathroom basin. Is there an alternative to pop-up waste apart from a plug? I personally dont like taps with pop-up waste becuase I have one and the stick you pull to close the plug feels cumbersome. Thanks

    Best place for insulation

Hi, Im getting underfloor heating in my cottage and want to add new insulation in loft. Some questions: 1) Wheres the cheapest place for loft insulation? 2) Is it 300mm for building regs? 3) I think the insulation thats in there has been there for about 40 years. Should I replace it or just add...

Hi I want to buy some engineered wood flooring which is suitable for UFH and is good quality. Ive found the below which is the cheapest Ive found at only £26.99. Is 2.5mm enough wood depth? Is it a false economy going with super cheap engineered wood flooring? Thanks

Mould in alcove - will fitted wardrobe help?

Thanks Foxhole - when you say 'ventilate' do you mean putting a ventilation brick to the outside? (I have cob walls so reticent about doing this) or simple some venetian-style slatted doors?

Mould in alcove - will fitted wardrobe help?

Hi all, I have a deep alcove in my bedroom that I use as a wardrobe (it has a curtain pole and a thin sheet of material as a screen). In the winter mould gathers in the alcove and ruins my shirts. Ive been thinking of utilising that space better and getting shelves, shoe rack etc... If I got a...
