    GRP Roof Problems

Hi, I laid my first GRP roof a couple of years ago and I have learnt a few lessons (including not to attempt it on the hottest day of the year in blistering heat ). The main problem I had was where the new GRP roof meets the felt garage roof. It delaminated after about 6 months and let water in...

    Angled kitchen cabinet door query

No it’s not “simple enough” trust me - been through a LOT of messing about with the design! The fridge and oven units are fixed at 600mm each. The corner pantry is 1000mm and that’s the only size they do. There is no wiggle room, the only alternative is to do away with the corner pantry and have...

    Leak testing an unvented system.

Oh and in case anyone was thinking it, I don't have separate isolation valves for the balanced cold/hot supplies so I can't test the two individually.

    Leak testing an unvented system.

TLDR version - I've got a leak rate of 0.4 bar/hour at the balanced supplies but only when the system is lined out fully with the mains cold valve closed. If I test each system individually no leak is found. Long version - I've recently had a full re-plumb about a year ago when we bought our...

    Angled kitchen cabinet door query

Yes, the run of doors fits my measurements. I designed the kitchen layout and did my own measurements, BUT they are saying I have to add in an additional 18mm end panel between the diagonal corner cupboard and the adjacent cupboards and this is what takes it over the available wall length...

    Angled kitchen cabinet door query

Maybe you didn’t understand the question. I’m asking if there’s a type of hinge you can buy that will clear the adjacent door to prevent catching so that I can do without the 18mm panel.

    Angled kitchen cabinet door query

No there was no error. I measured up, told them what I wanted and showed them my design. They came back to me and said I would need the 18mm end panel which would take it 10mm above the available space.

    Angled kitchen cabinet door query

Hi, wondered if anyone could help me. I’ve had a quote from a kitchen supplier and one of the measurements was tight, but they checked my design and added in an 18mm end panel stating that it was necessary to allow the angled corner cupboard door to open properly. This puts the run of units...

    Stove Advice

Hi, It’s not like me but I jumped into having a wood burning stove fitted without first doing much research. I was quite naive in thinking I could just bang a wooden lintel in and I had my builder do this and repoint the brickwork before getting quotes from 2 companies for a log burner supplied...

    GRP/Rooflight Upstand help

Thank you very much for the detailed reply. My rooflight (madefortrade roof lantern) silicones directly on top of the upstand the same as yours. When you say you GRP'd to the top, did you go over the top edge too, or did you stop at the top edge of the vertical face? The new roof joins the old...

    GRP/Rooflight Upstand help

Thanks. Can I ask where you got the trim from? I can't seem to find one for an upstand. Just to add, my roof is pitched against the upstand in two different directions, so the trim would need to be bent or cut to suit. Is that doable? Did you rough up your plywood before application? And what...

    GRP/Rooflight Upstand help

Due to having a flaky builder that's been very poor with advising me on my extension and only attended 3 days in the last 8 weeks, I've had to crack on and do the roof myself. I've finished the joinery and I intended to get the roof felted to match the garage roof which it connects to, however...

    Ventillation gaps in firrings

Never thought of doing it like that! To be honest I let my builder run with the project and I did discuss the roof at the outset but he said he thought a cold deck would be best to tie in with the garage and so there wasn't a big space above the bifolds. I have trusted his opinion on a few...

    Ventillation gaps in firrings

I know the difference between cold/warm deck roofs and filling the joists with insulation doesn't make it a warm deck. As I've said above it's connecting to a garage roof which is cold deck and it would look daft having two levels of flat roof next to eachother (if I were to have a warm deck).
