How to connect shower waste into horizontal soil stack

The soil stack runs horizontally along the bathroom floor and I need to connect a 40mm shower waste to it. Will it be okay (and meet building regs) if I fit a boss strap into the side of the pipe? (i.e. going into the horizontal soil pipe at 90 degrees and also horizontally)

Can a bathroom door open outwards?

It's a small bathroom and would be a better solution to improve usable floorspace in the bathroom. Would this be acceptable to Building Regulations though? Is there any reason apart from aesthetics (and safety) that internal doors open into rooms?

Is Pink Grip the new Gripfill?

I've always used Gripfill and think it's brilliant. Well, at least until I found Pink Grip. Even better - quicker adhesion and runnier so easy to use for skirting etc. Does it have any limits over Gripfill?

How to finish new wooden doors against render

I've had new bi fold doors fitted (varnished) and they've been rendered upto. How should I finish? If I paint the render and run a bead of silicone I can see it smearing over the wood of the door frame. What is standard practise to seal render against a wooden varnished frame?

How to finish where plaster meets windows?

Just had new windows and the room skimmed. It's quite a good finish of plaster against the windows. Should I caulk before painting or just leave as is and paint upto the plastic?

    Coving falling off

Thanks guys - you're spot on! Checked the bag and it's a month past it's BB date. Some of it has stuck and isnt' cracking so rather than pull it all down and embark on a big scrape and redo job, I'm tempted to use some Gripfill every 4 inches to ensure it stays in place in future Thanks again

    Coving falling off

It's the lightweight paper type, stuck with coving adhesive onto newly plastered walls. I've scored the walls and wet down with water to stop excessive suction. The adhesive is sticking well to the wall, but the paper coving is just falling off it. Any ideas?

Better alternative to Gripfill for skirting?

Gripfill's okay, but takes a while to stick plus it's thick so leaves a gap with the wall. Anyone found a better adhesive for this?

    Building Control - drains tests

I'm building an extension, external drains viewed and filled, the shell is now up and the BCO has said their next visit will be pre occupation when they will test all plumbing. I thought they needed to see all internal waste runs before they're boxed in? Also, are they really going to...

My walls are already in white, freshly painted and I'm going to change to a barely off white shade and need to buy all paint in one go. Is one coat likely to suffice or will it still need two?

    Base required for gravel footpath

I'm going to gravel the path to the side of my house. The soil here is very solid and I'm tempted to just run a whacker plate over it, use a membrane then put 5cm of gravel on top. Should I put a scalpings sub base or will the above be ok?
