Anyone got experience with damp proofing?

Will shortly be building a new porch with external door. Will go for 1981 by 838 door. I've always used linings previously inside but do I need a door casing for an external door? What's the difference? Also, do I fit the frame only when the new blockwork has been rendered?

I can plaster small areas like 2m by 2m, but never moved onto anything bigger. I'm building a garage and considering rendering it myself. A rendered finish seems more forgiving to small trowel marks etc and I'm tempted to render it myself. DOes this sound wise or is it as hard as plastering?

By 1.5 I meant one and a half width. Somewhere between a single and double. I'm building it so can get any opening between a single or double but don't want as big as a double

I want to put a conduit in teh wall to run power and other cables upto a wall mounted tv. I've looked in Screwfix and Toolstaion and not finding anything that looks suitable. What sort of conduit do I need?

Resurrecting an old post - is it worth putting rebar into the foundations along it's length and at the corners? It's cheap enough and I'm happy to bend, but is it going to be a complete waste of time?

The heat gun will wreck your windows! I'd just sand down to teh point where you can get sight of some bits of concrete and that will hold the new paint on. I've just used standard undercoat and then masonry paint for such sills and it worked well.

Def mist coat new plaster ceiling and your guy shouldn't have left tape in teh edges if you're going to cut it. It's not going to perform any function if cut in the corner. I taped up some edges like this before and the plasterer removed it and just bedded the plaster into the corner and it...

I've bought a new tongue and groove side gate, all primed and ready to paint. I'm thinking Satinwood or gloss - would prefer Satinwood as less shiny. Is it going to be okay outdoors, or is there a better paint I should consider?

Thanks folks. This route sounds pretty cost effective and still leaves everything accessible. I'll make the holes in the cabinet gabels even smaller by running just the appliance flex through and then putting the plug on Thanks again everyone!
