Best gloss paint - that doesn’t go yellow

I've been using Johnstone's aqua recently; been quite happy with the results.

Convensional boiler, heating on its own.

We only ever have heating when the hot water would be on, so I'm not that bothered. It would take a long time to recoup the outlay in efficiency, so I'll worry about that when it's beyond economical repair.

Convensional boiler, heating on its own.

Ace, thank you. Your terminology also allowed me to find out why it is such. I wasn't having much luck typing nonsense into google.

    Affixing a fireback

Something like this, listed on ebay. I assume people normally prop them up and they stay in place through sheer weight. Yes that would be a good idea - leaving the hole slightly larger than it needs to be, and not having it too tight.

Convensional boiler, heating on its own.

We've got a conventional heating system; and while I've only had combi boilers up till now, I like the system. The only thing that bugs me is that the system will heat hot water on its own, or heating and hot water, but not just heating. It's not really a problem because we only ever have them...

    Affixing a fireback

Cheers, Foxhole. The firebacks I'm talking about are just flat slabs of decorative cast-iron to set against the rear of the fireplace. That would require a different approach, no?

    Affixing a fireback

We don't use our open fire very often, but I'm going to get a fireback to go against the brickwork. Most don't have legs, so what's the normal procedure for affixing? I figure I could either just prop it up behind the grate, or drill a couple of holes at the top to screw it in place. I'm not...

    Damp

How powerful is the fan, and where is it located? Is there a gap under the door to allow replacement air into the room?

    Non-reflective/light absorption paint for ceiling?

It's worth putting some cheap black fabric up temporarily across the ceiling; at least then you'll know if it will make enough of a difference to be worth the effort. It's tough getting the balance right for living space and projectors.

    Mid-position actuator replacement

Well this old model doesn't clip off, and it was mounted facing a wall so it was a bit of a bigger. I managed to remove the motor and it all seemed to turn ok, I swapped the motor anyhow because £20 was worth not going through that again. Unfortunately while it moved to heating, it only comes...

    Non-reflective/light absorption paint for ceiling?

I built a dedicated cinema room last year. Short of colour changes or fabric, you're not going to make much difference to the reflected light - assuming you're using a matte paint.

Brilliant, thank you. I shall let you know how I get on. :)

    Mid-position actuator replacement

Thanks Simon; it's this the kind of thing you're talking about? https://www.screwfix.com/p/drayton-synchronous-motor/28670

    Mid-position actuator replacement

That was a damn fast reply. Thanks, Andy; I can't perceive any obvious way to remove the head, but there must be a way. I'll have to set some time aside at the weekend. Shan't shell out for a new one just yet.

    Mid-position actuator replacement

I tested the heating yesterday and it was fine, but this morning I noticed that the house was warm and the heating was turned off. The thermostat stayed illuminated and heating carried on regardless of the temperature. The MPV was stuck at heating; I killed the power and it stayed there, but I...

Adding a resistor to a lighting circuit

I second the Varilight V-Pro dimmers; we have several.

Using trade paint neat (dulux in this case)

Aye, I threw the undiluted ceiling coats up at the weekend and was very pleased with the ultra matt.

Using trade paint neat (dulux in this case)

Sorry, yes - I was just referring to the ceilings, and didn't elaborate. I plan to use the ultra matt on the ceilings, the 'durable' flat matt on the walls, and johnstone's aqua satin on the trip (I read more positive reviews than dulux on the WB satin-side of things).
