Affixing a fireback

We don't use our open fire very often, but I'm going to get a fireback to go against the brickwork. Most don't have legs, so what's the normal procedure for affixing? I figure I could either just prop it up behind the grate, or drill a couple of holes at the top to screw it in place.

I'm not sure how the screws would fare with the roasting plate, but I figure it would probably be ok.

Cheers, Foxhole. The firebacks I'm talking about are just flat slabs of decorative cast-iron to set against the rear of the fireplace. That would require a different approach, no?

Something like this, listed on ebay. I assume people normally prop them up and they stay in place through sheer weight.

Yes that would be a good idea - leaving the hole slightly larger than it needs to be, and not having it too tight.
