    Fireplace surround for wood burner

Hi, I've had my chimney lined, so it's ready for a wood burner, however, I'd like some advice on the fire surround please. I know that there are rules about the distance to combustible materials and since I'd like a wooden surround/mantel, I need to set the surround back from the builder's...

    How to drain combi boiler?

So, I need to turn the isolating valve on the cold inlet by a quarter turn and check the hot tap. Next, turn off the stopcock and run a cold water tap to check it's off. Turn the boiler off (probably best to do ths first). Remove the cartridge and fit the new one.

    How to drain combi boiler?

Sorry for delayed reply - for some reason I can no longer access Diynot.com via Virgin Media. Here's the scale inhibitor cartridge, although the photo is on its side, the cartridge is actually upright.

    How to drain combi boiler?

Thanks for the reply. The pipework is all exposed under the boiler - I've attached photos. I think you mean the brass fitting with the 'screw' inside (first picture) - I need to turn that clockwise by a quarter of a turn? [/url]

    How to drain combi boiler?

Hi All, I have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i combi boiler and I had a scale inhibitor fitted one year ago, after the plate heat exchanger scaled up, only 2 years after the boiler was installed. Unfortunately, I didn't check the installation of the scale inhibitor and it seems that the...

Perished bricks? Damp proof course being replaced...

Too late...he has removed the render and there is indeed damage to the brickwork. Whether or not it was damaged beforehand, I don't know. Basically, I think we're screwed now, but I'm going to ask him to halt the work for the time being.

Perished bricks? Damp proof course being replaced...

Hi, I'm having a new damp proof course installed at my Victorian house, as there is penetrating damp, which is causing the plaster to come off the wall inside. The damp proof installer has removed the plaster, but he says that the brickwork has been damaged and is soaked, so bricks probably...

    Baffling Thermostatic Shower Valve Problem

Problem solved and I'm posting the answer here for any other poor sods who encounter the same issue. My shower has a non-return valve on the hot water pipe, right before the thermostatic shower valve. There is also a rubber washer which contains a very fine mesh - presumably to stop gunk...

    Baffling Thermostatic Shower Valve Problem

No suggestions around the cause/solution? I can't seem to find a plumber to come and look at this, so I'm currently stuck. In case there was air trapped in the system, I turned off the water supply at the stopcock, turned off the boiler, partially unscrewed the thermostatic valve, turned...

    Baffling Thermostatic Shower Valve Problem

Hi All, I know it's been a while :) since this post was raised, but what was the cause of the problem? I have the same issue, except the hot water is affected, not the cold. I know it's not caused by the pipes being fitted incorrectly, because this is a secondary problem. This is a...
