Sudden problem with our SKY system.

Suddenly discovered today that our SKY system has a fault which we have never encountered before. We cannot get BBC1 to work, we are told there is no signal. But BBC2 works but only after we get a message telling us to re-start the SKY box. And we can't get any SKY channels to work either. We...

    Fluoresent or LED

Crikey, does that mean that in a years time we won't be able to replace any dead Fluorescent tubes ? We have quite a few in the house and that is quite worrying.

    Fluoresent or LED

Many thanks to all of you yet again. I have certainly learnt a lot in these last few hours. I stupidly thought that LED would be so much brighter than fluourescent and so my current intention is to return the LED batten and buy a longer fluourescent with a cable that emanates from the centre top...

    Fluoresent or LED

Oh dear, it seems as though I have got completely the wrong idea about all this. I automatically assumed that more lumens = brighter light. It seems that I was wrong. So maybe I should start again but before that I would like to give my thanks for such quick responses to my initial question...

    Fluoresent or LED

Thank you. Sorry for using the wrong terminology. I forgot to add in my question that the current unit does not have a starter. So just to be sure, are you saying that it is not possible for me just to buy a same length LED and fit it straight in the same as I do now with fluorescent tubes i.e...

    Fluoresent or LED

I have searched this Forum for an answer but what I found was quite old and so I am going to ask my question if I may. I have what I think is a basic fluorescent light in a small room. It is 1200mm long Sylvania Cool White F36W/840 3350 Lumen bulb and the unit has the attached image of a ballast...

    Bathroom mirror.

Thank you both, very helpful. It's just as I thought but it means that I have to find a mirror with similar fixings to avoid the wiring in the wall behind the mirror. Thanks again for prompt help.

    Bathroom mirror.

I did search this subject on this Forum but didn't really find an answer. We have a bathroom mirror (as attached) that has lost a lot of it's "coating" as can be seen. It is exactly the mirror we needed because of the shelf, size, existing fixings, etc. Is there any way that mirrors can be...

    Wiring to outside lights.

On one wall of my house I have 3 lantern-type outside lamps. The current goes to the first one which has a PIR which then operates the other two lamps when the first one is activated. Looking at the attached image it can be seen that there are two power cables coming out of the wall to the first...

    Electricity Supplier ?

Hello everyone. It's me, the OP. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to this topic. I am reading every posting and am finding it very informative. Slightly off topic in some cases but I am still very appreciative of each and every one of you. Thank you and kind regards.

    Electricity Supplier ?

This is such a useful Forum that I thought I would ask another question which is all about electricty suppliers. This is a small farm on a 3-phase supply with an outside meter in a cabinet but we do not use much electric for the farm, it is mainly for the house. I used to be with Southern...

DeWALT DCD785 18v cordless drill problem.

Yes, I always do that nowadays. It's easy enough because most of us walk round with a camera in our pocket in the shape of a mobile 'phone. Thanks for reminding me anyway.

DeWALT DCD785 18v cordless drill problem.

Thank you for your suggestion but that's my point. It isn't broken as such. All other aspects of the drill work fine and if I mess something up when dismantling then I have lost a drill as well as the hammer. I do agree that if it was totally shot then it would soon be in bits.

DeWALT DCD785 18v cordless drill problem.

Thank you very much for that. ! I gave it all a good blow out with the airline but it hasn't fixed it. I must admit it does just feel like something is jammed. Suddenly I feel brave. I'll have another look on YouTube if you think it should be dismantled from the rear. Could you elaborate...

DeWALT DCD785 18v cordless drill problem.

The drill, together with an impact driver, is what I use in the farm workshop for the small stuff. If I can going to drill bigger than 1/4" and can get it into the drill I use one of my pedestal drills. One is a 3ph MT up to No. 3. I do occasionally use the DeWalt for domestic use if the Boss...

DeWALT DCD785 18v cordless drill problem.

Mmmm - I can see the reasoning behind your thoughts. It all looks a bit fiddly in there. The only thing is that the rest of the drill works as it should and so I'm tempted to hang on to it and if/when I need a hammer drill I go and buy a specific one. If I did decided to replace the gearbox...
