    Garage door

I will be painting my garage door black, currently it is blue (peeling off). I assume I will need to remove as much as the old blue paint as possible (wire brush, sand paper etc)? Do I need an undercoat and 1 top coat, or just 1 topcoat, or 2 topcoats? Thank you.

Please help me get a decent night's sleep! My rads and the pipes keep tapping, it comes and goes, sometimes I can hear it downstairs, sometimes it's the rad next to my head in my bedroom! I have a combi boiler, is there something I can do, and how? Many thanks.

    Glue and skim

I leart how to skim many years ago and haven't done much for years. Today I skimmed the ceiling (over boards) in our box room. I managed to get 2 coats on the ceiling and I'm pleased with it, I wanted to skim one of the walls at the same time; got the first coat on okay but ran out of time...

    Security floodlight

A couple of houses have been broken into in our street, our house is pretty secure but the wife now wants a security light fitted round the back. The type that lights up the whole garden when anything moves. If I was to buy one from, say screwfix, can I just run a cable round to the fuse box...

    Holding a swinging chair

I have a new garden chair, it sits 2 people so there's a fair bit of weight. I want to hang it from a timber joist which is 150 x 50 (6 x 3), the joist is fixed firm to the house at one end and a wall at the other end, so I'm happy with that. How should I hang the chair? I was thinking of...

    Galvanised nails

Thanks merlin50, problem is, you will be able to see the head. I should have pointed out you will see the trellis from both sides. Might be my only option though. What are they called?

    Galvanised nails

I'm trying to make some trellis out of battens; 19mm x 38mm. I assume the best way to fix them would be 35mm galvanised nails (lost head or oval head). I've checked everywhere but can't find them. The nails I want all start at 40mm. Is there another way to fix the battens, or does anyone...

    Cracked slabs

The slabs were £2.20 incl of VAT - the cheapest slab Jewsons had, they are 450 x 450. I used a rubber mallet but as Wabbitpoo pointed out; too much mix under the slab and mix was probably a bit too stiff - and I did hit them hard. However, they were laid on a solid bed and I pushed and...
