Can A Professional Plasterer Apply undercoat Without Battens

I was just thinking about this tonight as I was plastering: Are there any experts out there who can undercoat a wall perfectly flat, level and plumb (lets say with hardwall) without the use of battens and featheredge? If so, how is it mastered? Years of practice? Or is it simply not possible?

Internal Blockwork - PVA Or Just Dampen It Down?

EDIT: Just measured one, each one is 900mm x 300mm x 60mm so they're quite thin really. Well they are very easy to drill through (just used my cordless) and are very porous so I would assume that they are light weight. So, would you reckon browning will be suitable? If so, do I just wet the...

Internal Blockwork - PVA Or Just Dampen It Down?

Hi, Have removed 90 year old plaster off internal blockwork which is stable and in sound condition. Now I intend to batten out and basecoat it with browning before topcoating with multifinish (thought browing more suitable than bonding). Basically, I'm confused as to whether the blockwork has...

    Plasterboard Over Artex

Yeah, I've thought about that, but I read somewhere on here a story where the bonding came away from the ceiling in chunks lol I'll speak to a plasterer about this and see what he/ she can advise. Thanks for advice everyone.

    Plasterboard Over Artex

Thanks, but I daren't disturb it, just to be on the safe side, just incase it does contain asbestos. I'm confident it will be safe to screw battens through it and into the joists, wearing FFP3 dust mask of course. Just curious, why would you need to 'knock off the high spots' anyway? [/url]...

    Plasterboard Over Artex

Hi, I wish to batten out my ceiling (over artex) ready for plasterboarding with skim finish. The plan was to do the work myself and bring in a plasterer to skim finish for me. Problem is that I can't fix the plasterboards myself as they are too heavy to prop up, so would it cost much extra...

    Kitchen Waste Pipe Made Of...

Yeah, unfortunately you're right there, for sure. Doesn't always apply unless the same situation rearises in the future. I mainly keep a record of experiences for tasks that I know I will definitely encounter at some point in time though. For example: A recent problem involving a cable wedged...

    Kitchen Waste Pipe Made Of...

I won't, but I highly recommend him to anyone who wishes to have a kitchen waste pipe made of cardboard installed and needs a carpet simply placing on the floor with no gripper rods and not even plumber's mastic!

Plaster with salt growing out of it

I say bring in a professional to do the job properly. That's the problem with council houses, the council will always send cowboys in to do the job. Glad I don't live in one :)

    Kitchen Waste Pipe Made Of...

CARDBOARD! Forgot I still had these pictures from a while back. Odd job man came to fit a carpet for us and we asked him if he could do something with our kitchen waste pipe as it wasn't long enough to reach the gulley so he said he'd have a look at it. We went out for the day. He obviously...
