    DeWalt vs. Bosch

I had totally forgotten the Fein!! The problem is they are generally a whole layer of cash more expensive!?! Does the entry level kit - Fein FMT 250 - equate in any way to the Bosch or the DeW? Or do you have to spend the extra hundred or so for an equivalent? I am not earning a...

Recommendations for Supply/Fit of Granite Worktops (Surrey)

Firstly, I have no connection with these people. We have used them a few times over the last 15 years for bedroom and bathroom mainly. Last time was for a granite top and upstand for a double vanity unit. As always, very good! http://www.miscellanea.co.uk/ Worth a look.

Cost of skirting - Jesus H Christ

If the house is Victorian, one thing to remember, the Victorians were all about the show! Start at the front of the house with the good stuff and get slowly worse as you go back through the house until you reach the scullery where only the very basic stuff would have been fitted for the...

    painting guttering

You know what? For the work and cost involved in getting two coats of paint on, I would replace it with black. It may even work out cheaper, Zinsser products aren't cheap!

    Forstner Vs. Holesaw

Thanks guys, Do you think the adjustable flat bits would be man enough for the job? I note that Toolstation do, what they call an Expansive Bit which they say is heavy duty. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Power+Tool+Accessories/Wood+Drill+Bits/d80/sd1120 A lot of these bits seem to...

Idea for fitting new cornice please

Yup. That is exactly what I mean. The problem with not putting a strip across the ceiling, as I see it, is it will be difficult to deal with any fluctuations in level, particularly if you don't want to skim it once finished. You will have to be pretty precise in your cutting and fitting...

    Forstner Vs. Holesaw

I had thought about the flat boring bit option, but thought that 40mm dia. would be too large?? I note that Bosch make a really robust looking flat bit, but only up to 38mm dia.

    Forstner Vs. Holesaw

Thanks Greggers, I did wonder if the relative coarseness of a holesaw's teeth would struggle with oak. I think I will get Axminster so send me a 40mm Forstner. Unless there is a third way I haven't thought of...

    Forstner Vs. Holesaw

Bit of help please from all of you chippies/joiners out there. I need to put a 40mm dia. hole through 20mm oak as cleanly as possible, I have a decent pillar drill. Would you use a good quality holesaw, I have a DeWalt arbour, but not a 40mm holesaw - or would you use a Forstner bit, I...

    Wood burning stove?

We have a Morso Squirrel on our narrowboat - we burn a mixture of wood and coal, if you bank up the fire correctly and get the air vents just right, the stove will be too hot to touch in the morning 8 or 9 hours later. Chuck on a bit more fuel, open up the vents and off you go again.

Idea for fitting new cornice please

I think you are going to have to run some angled strips to fit the cornice to - for ease of cutting, I would think about making the cornice 45 degrees, although I suppose you could do 30 degrees and 60 degrees almost as easily. You might get away with just a strip run along the wall...

    Screw hole too big

Core and plug, if you have enough thickness to do it. As above - if it is oak, consider using brass screws.

Anyone recommend a Router for Kitchen Worktops

If you are either on a limited budget, or don't want a router for full time, pro use you could do worse than one of these... http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-erb380rou-2100w-router-230-240v/81664 I have had one for 18 months now and I am still impressed with what you get for the price.

    How to make a Gate?

I'm not sure you are understanding the nice Mr Hamster's suggestion. Laying the facing diagonally across three ledges would allow good use of 4' lengths and would allow sensible joins to be made to arrive at a 6' height. If all you have is 4' lengths, you will never make a 6' gate without joins...
