Best method for accurate lap joints

There are a number of YouTube vids that show how to make jigs. I tend not to use a jig, just a G Clamp and a piece of batten - works for me :D

I always thought steel was a no-no with oak?? Does the fact it is stainless make a difference?

    Skirting round corners

[/url] I don't like the look of that. We have exactly the same rounded corner in our hall, it has been done with two 45 degree cuts, then backfilled and levelled. It looks great, clean tidy and neat.

    Need a new spirit level

www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5AzbDJ7KYI Yes indeed! Also, I think there was a piece on TV not so long ago about striped paint - it could have been the 1st of April, I can't remember...

    Need a new spirit level

Ahhhh... Fair enough. When you decide on a replacement, think about one with adjustable bubbles. Then when (you drop it again) it gets dropped by someone, you can fix it.

    Axminster Tools

Thanks B-A, Both sites are great for bits and bobs, but unless I am missing something, they don't do the larger pieces of equipment... No bandsaws or drill presses :(

    Axminster Tools

Hi Guys and Gals, I need to replace an old bandsaw and buy a drill press. I am not a pro, but am a keen hobbyist/DIYer. I don't do too much really heavy work, mainly small woodwork projects and the occasional bit of light metal work. Has anybody had any experience with Axminster tools...

Want to fit pulleys, etc to hoist garage contents

Been there, done this. I used to be able to reverse the car into the garage, lower the minisail onto the roof rack and drive out, all in about 10 minutes, no fuss, no bother. I have no comment about the load bearing ability (or otherwise) of your roof trusses. I am not a structural...

Buying a router and bits for DIY work

I bought one of these about a year ago - http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-erb380rou-2100w-router-230-240v/81664 I am chuffed to bits with it. Just to say, I am only a DIYer, a keen one with some skills and experience when working with wood. I am NOT a pro, this machine might not be the...

    Pumping Water

Just a thought, but I assume the geography of your location doesn't allow for old fashioned syphonage? If you are going into a drain, it may be possible to get the outlet end low enough.

    Painting a gilt mirror frame

Plasticote (plastikote??) do a range of spray paints, although a lot of it is quite jazzy!! Bright colours and fluorescent being their main stock in trade, but you may find something to your taste. Hobby Craft tend to stock most of the range, and a few other ones if I remember rightly.

    Propane Hob

Thanks Tony, that's really helpful. Many years ago I used to race with a skipper who would insist on pumping the bilges every morning for 5 minutes, even though they were as dry as a bone - when asked why, he would say he was pumping out the gas. I used to have a laugh with any new members of...
