    Propane Hob

Thanks for the response (nice to hear from a fellow ditch crawler) The trouble is, a lot of the hobs you can get for boats/motorhomes don't look very special. We went to Crick this weekend and saw some really great fit-outs using domestic style hobs, so I started wondering... I guess I...

Best method of trimming door edge

I have used circular saws to skim small amounts off things - doors in particular. I don't possess a power plane... Just make sure you clamp a good straight fence across the door and you have the right blade in the saw (lots of teeth for a nice fine cut) and you will be fine. I wouldn't...

    Outbuilding advice

Jim, I think the point here is that the 'stream of consciousness' style of your original post is extremely difficult to read. I belong to this forum more to learn than to offer help, I don't have the skills or experience to offer very much help to be honest, but I learn vast amounts from...

    Propane Hob

Hi Guys, Please forgive the appalling lack of knowledge, but gas is generally not my thing. I want to upgrade the gas hob on our narrowboat. The existing hob is a Belling caravan/motorhome style hob and I would like to fit something a little less 'camping' and a little more 'domestic'...

    Water hammer from tap

Just to echo what has been said above. When we first moved in we used to get a lot of the 'clonking' noise you describe. Over a period of months I started lifting floorboards and adding pipe clips at various places and gradually managed to reduce the 'clonking' so that eventually everything...

Builder not built house to plans

This is why you need proper project management - it always seems a bit overkill on smaller jobs, but in circumstances like this, worth every penny. As Bernard says, if the architect had signed up to say he would project manage, it is his responsibility, if not, I don't think you have any case...

    idea for lining shower walls

Hmmm - interesting idea. Could look great with the tubes running up and down and lit from below. But - you would deffo need to seal it really well you would certainly get condensation, or worse in the tubes I reckon. Also, you might have to be really careful how you clean it as I would...

someone will be along with some detailed advice soon - but, what I have learned over the years is that, generally, anything that says 'one-coat' normally isn't!!

    distressing furniture

There's a difference between 'Brown' furniture made out of cheap veneer laid onto a substandard base and a nice piece made out of proper Mahogany. Can't really tell what this was before it got 'improved', but it looks like it was a nice piece to me. Oh well - I guess when fashions change...

    distressing furniture

Looks like it would be worth a couple of hundred in the right place - depends on the quality, but it looks half-decent.

will metal mesh rust in a concrete slab?

A bit late to this, but... As long as there is sufficient cover, the rebar will not rust. So called concrete cancer is caused where the cover is insufficient and water can get to the rebar, rust sets in and causes expansion which blows the cover off, this obviously allows more water to...

Making the Best of a Stupid Mistake

Depends on the design of the blind - but it is sometimes possible to trim the blind without too much trouble. We have a local, independent, blind shop. They are happy (for a reasonable price) to make adjustments to blinds so that they fit.
