    Stupid question - sorry.

Yes, that is what I have been doing wrong, i.e. winding it up the wrong way. But it's such a pain turning the pin round instead of just holding the pin with the right hand and wizzing the line round and round it with the left hand.

    Stupid question - sorry.

I actually sorted it today. Put the peg at one end of the line in the soil with the line still attached and then unrolled the line off the other peg until I got to the end and then took the line off the peg and let it just lie on the ground. Went back to the first peg, picked up the line and...

    Stupid question - sorry.

Thanks for the quick response. I think I'l try laying it out. New twine ???? Ouch ! I've only had this for 28 years. Nothing lasts nowadays does it.

    Stupid question - sorry.

I know this is a stupid question but apart from hanging it from the Eiffel Tower I can't think of a way to get all the twists out of my builder's line. It's one of those old fashioned jobbies with pointed dagger-like things that the twine is wound around and I am obviously winding it up...

    A ball park figure ?

Thank you. I am quite surprised by these figures, and yes, I am aware that if you pay peanuts then you get monkeys.

Thank you. I was expecting it to be a bit more than that.

    A ball park figure ?

Yes, I can understand that but I had the type 1 and digger on site and and dug it out while the ground was like concrete so I didn't make a mess of the lawn that I had to go over.

    A ball park figure ?

I'm not looking for a quote, but just wondered if anyone could give a ball park figure for getting someone to lay a small patio for me please. I have attached a piccy but I had to merge a couple of images using Photoshop because I took them out of a bedroom window ! As can be seen it has been...

    New terrace.

I presume that is some kind of advanced drawing/design software. I do have a telegraph pole and a panel fence to contend with but I have put a set square on the two bottom corners and I can make them both 90 degrees and so I now have a trapezium instead of my original irregular quadrillateral...

    New terrace.

Now that is really helpful FMT. Thank you very much. I'm wondering if I can make at least one 90 degree angle out of it (bottom right) ? Possibly two - bottom left as well ? Then at least I would have two parallel sides.

    New terrace.

I should have thanked you for that so thank you now. Is there any chance you could tell me what the angles are please ?

    New terrace.

Yes, I was going to do that but still deciding on which slabs. We would like smooth and not riven but they're not cheap are they !!!!

Not disputing what you say but that is a big surprise.

    New terrace.

I didn't say that the angles were correct, in fact I knew that they wouldn't be. I drew it with Photoshop and used an adjusted grid overlay to make sure that the lengths of the sides were correct relative to each other.

    New terrace.

No, that is a correct measurement. Have added both diagonals as shown.

    New terrace.

No, that won't be anywhere near enough since slabs will have to be cut on 3 sides of the area because none of the sides are parallel. Plus the fact that she wants slabs of at least 3 different sizes.

How large, in sq. mts, is the area to be covered.
