DPC and Screed or Concrete Garage Floor

Thanks for all your advice, really appreciate it. I'll give Ardex a call on Monday and double check about the B2 slurry mix.

DPC and Screed or Concrete Garage Floor

Thanks for all your help and advice so far. Had a look at the technical data sheets and am I right in thinking the Ardex FastTrack EB2 would be the better option due to it's higher strength. Would I still have to use the Ardex B2 as a bonding agent to the existing concrete floor?

DPC and Screed or Concrete Garage Floor

No, our intention is to keep the slope but if we increase the floor level at the front (by the garage door) by an inch and a half, then we need to increase the back of the garage, thus making the gap between the garage floor and the DPC level at the highest point 100mm. However, the front of...

DPC and Screed or Concrete Garage Floor

I have two questions...... We need to raise the garage floor up by an inch or so to be level with the driveway outside. The front of the garage, where the door is, would then be 2 bricks below DPC level, but the back of the garage would only be 100mm below DPC. This is because the existing...

    Removing Tyrolean from UPVC windows

I've just had some Tyrolean applied to some block work on an extension I've built, but the UPVC window is covered in either the Tyrolean or the backing coat. I've tried hot soapy water, white spirits, kitchen cream cleaner and also UPVC restorer, but nothing has removed it. I can't even...

Expanding Foam - Passed Expiry Date

Yes, I bought a box of 5 from Screwfix specifically for the new windows I've been putting in - just a took a bit longer than anticipated, hence the expiry date!

Expanding Foam - Passed Expiry Date

Just gone to use some expanding foam to fill around some new window frames, but the expiry date was 6 months ago. Can has never been opened. Does anyone know if it will still be OK?

16A MCB in the consumer unit?

There's a cable from the consumer unit to the garden shed (1.5 SWA cable) at a depth of 18 inches and running 25m long which runs a shed light operated by a pullcord switch. I've got a spare rcd weather proof socket which I would like to install in the shed and possibly use the same cable...

    Protecting Main Gas Pipe

Just started digging the driveway in preparation for new drive and the main gas pipe that goes into the house is only about 1ft below ground. Can anyone tell me the best way to protect it from the hardcore that will be placed on top? I was thinking of maybe covering in building sand, but not...

    Wrong fuel

I filled my diseal tank up last night on my 55 reg Seat Alhambra (approx 70 litres). Problem is I've just emptied a spare can in to it before realising it was petrol! I don't think there was anymore than 4 litres in it. Does anyone know whether this will be OK or will I have to get the...

Bath waste pipe in old cavity wall

The pipe will run inside the cavity for about 2m and will be either 40mm or 50mm. The soil stack is on an inside wall.

Bath waste pipe in old cavity wall

Does anyone know if it's OK to run the waste pipe through a cavity wall to the soil stack? I've built an extension at the side of the house and therefore the cavity wall is no longer an outside wall and rather than boxing out the pipe in the bathroom I wanted to run it along the cavity wall...

    Knocking through load bearing wall

I've built a 2 storey extension and now need to knock through from the main house into the extension. I'll be putting in a 4m beam downstairs and upstairs will be 2.5m beam, which will carry the existing wall plate. Half of the upstairs beam will be directly above the downstairs beam...

    GRP or Steel

We need a new garage door and decided on a GRP. However, we've just been to a local showroom and have been advised to go for a steel door as it will be south facing and wouldn't fade as quickly as a GRP. A little confused now as we had researched GRP and it is seemed like it was the best...

    Wall Movement - Thermalite Blocks

We've built an extension using thermalite blockwork. It's been built for about a year now and we know (now!) that the blocks are prone to cracking. On the ground floor there is quite a substantial crack and if you push the wall even about 2ft from the crack you can see a slight movement...
