    Broadband drop-out when phone rings

Thanks for all the replies, I'll have a crack at sorting out the mystery drop wiring this weekend. At my previous property there were only two wires coming into the house, so why there are 4 in this place (built early 80s), with two of them connected to the same terminal on the socket, is...

    Broadband drop-out when phone rings

Also should have clarified, that when I wrote 'White and Blue' from exchange (which I've since learned is called the Drop Line) - I meant that two wires, the white and the blue, are connected into the same pin, pin 5. Not sure what impact this has. I'd be happy to rewire with a new NTE5 and...

    Broadband drop-out when phone rings

I haven't got two masters, I've got a master and one of these: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45725&doy=22m4&C=SO&U=strat15 The wiring on the master socket is as follows: Pin 1 Empty Pin 2 Orange from Exchange, Blu/Whi to extension Pin 3 Green from Exchange, Or/Whi to...

    Broadband drop-out when phone rings

Hi, 90% of the time, when our home phone rings, the ADSL connection is lost. BT have eliminated a line fault so I started some diagnostics... I've extended from the master socket (old type, not NTE5) to a combined ADSL and phone wall-mounted socket. I disconnected the router from this and...

    Motorised Valve

Nice! I tried using a kitchen roll tube but still couldn't tell. I'll try the screwdriver trick tonight!

    Motorised Valve

Don't think so, it's very quiet. Unless the pump has some sort of tickover mode. 99% certain that the noise is coming from the mot valve(s). I'll pull the panels off and make absolutely certain this evening!

    Motorised Valve

There's two of them actually; both Danfoss HPA2. They're really close together and not particularly accessible so I'm not sure if it's just one, or both of them, that are humming. They're both vibrating slightly if that's any help. Thanks

    Motorised Valve

Hi, I've noticed, late at night, that one of the motorised valves is humming quietly when the CH/HW is not on. Is this normal? Thanks

    Haunted Boiler

I'll have to open up the hatch to check its temperature. Are you saying it should never be hot, or that it should be hot only at certain times? But basically, if the valve is humming when HW and CH is off, thats A Bad Thing? Thanks

*BUMP* Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks J

    Haunted Boiler

Model is Danesmoor 20/25, manuf. 2001 Wilhelm - don't think it's a valve - they're far enough away from the boiler to make it impossible to mistake where the noise is coming from. It's definitely the boiler that fires up. Unless I don't understand what you mean? Cheers J Edit: I've...

    Haunted Boiler

Thanks for responses. Boiler is in kitchen, so don't think it's a thermostat thing. Think the boiler is pretty new, maybe 5 or 6 years old? It came with the house so not exactly sure! But it sounds as though the supernatural can be ruled out, which is a relief after our last house

    Haunted Boiler

Hi, I have a Bosch Worcester boiler. All works as expected, apart from: Every night, around midnight, it fires up for about 5 minutes, regardless of whether the HW or CH is on. Is this supposed to happen, and if so - why? If it ain't supposed to happen - what might be wrong...

    Which budget circular saw?

Hi, I'm looking for a budget circular saw. I won't use it a great deal so don't want to fork out DeWalt money. I don't really know what to go for. The latest Toolstation catalogue has PowerPlus tools (I'm looking at the POWX052 at £68), or there's the Silverline 'Hi-spec' 210mm Circular...

New Consumer Unit - not sure on configuration

Okay, well my setup is TNCS and I intend to pull the master fuse before I start. If I start. Believe it or not, I have taken on board everything you've all said. While I like to save money where possible, and believe that there is a large part of this work that I'm capable of doing, I'm not a...

New Consumer Unit - not sure on configuration

You might know me but hate me! :D I haven't really thought about it much at all yet, I wanted to get advice from here and then decide whether to proceed myself or fork out.

New Consumer Unit - not sure on configuration

Well, it's still £400 gone from my pocket for a job that I could possibly do some or all of myself. So yes, it is expensive. Comparing it to the price of getting qualified seems to have little relevance, unless you're effectively admitting that most pro electricians hold their customers to...

New Consumer Unit - not sure on configuration

First of all, let me say that I'm not bothered about certification. Or more accurately, I'm not bothered about the expense of getting a certified sparky to do the job - I simply can't afford it. I AM bothered about the work being safe, as you say, for my family and me. This is why I'm posting...

New Consumer Unit - not sure on configuration

Er... I was, albeit with a friend who has done this before (but admittedly is not qualified). Not sure what earthing system I have, how do I find out? House is late 70s in a rural location, electricity is supplied underground. My guess is that it's TN[C]s, although I'll make sure before I...
