    Wallpapering to a flat edge

Hello I am currently in the process of wallpapering my landing, passageway and stairway. Whilst I'm not brilliant I'm competent(ish) but I'm about to wallpaper the wall above the top of my stairs on the landing. Now normally when you wallpaper you’re either wallpapering to the skirting or...

    Painting on sized plaster?

Hello A few months ago I had my passageway skimmed, including a tiny part of the ceiling in front of the front door (which is slightly lower than the rest of the ceiling). I am in the middle of wallpapering the stairs now, which will include the passageway, and in preparation I have sized...

    Window sill sealant?

Hello I'm looking to replace an old window sill (and by 'replace' I mean fit a pvc window sill on top of the original wooden window sill as it can't be removed as the wood seems to be fitted into the surrounding walls). As my walls are out, especially on one side, I'm guessing that there...

Best method of trimming door edge

To be fair the doors are hollow, so I think the frame itself is not going to be that thick at all. Would a circular saw be ok to use though, given the relatively small amount (approx 7mm) that needs cutting from the end of one of the doors?

Best method of trimming door edge

    That's a good tip I hadn't thought of - cheers! :D I see no-one is giving me the encouragement I need to purchase a multi-tool - drat!

    "Multi" tools

I'm really tempted to buy the Bosch that is linked in the first post. However, is it suitable for trimming the edge off a hollow internal door, or would I be better off using something else? I know they're excellent for trimming door posts etc when tiling/installing laminate, but would it...

Best method of trimming door edge

Hello I've just had some bedroom carpets fitted with nice thick underlay. They look great, but unfortunately I now am unable to get the bedroom doors back on properly because of the added thickness. The doors are those 6 panel Pine Colonial ones from Maxwells that are hollow inside. I...

    Stairlift wiring removal

Thanks for your replies - when the guys who came to remove the stairlift left the wiring, that's what they said too - they'd keep it there in case I wanted to turn it into a regular socket. However, I already have a socket on the landing just half a metre away, so another one (especially in...

    Stairlift wiring removal

Thank you for your responses. None of the upstairs bedrooms have carpets at the moment, and it seems to me that the landing carpet has been pulled up at some stage as it no longer seems 'fitted' in parts so hopefully it shouldn't be too disruptive. I just wish I'd insisted they do it at...

    Stairlift wiring removal

Hello When my father died we arranged for the removal of his stairlift by the company. They did so, but neglected to remove the wiring at the top of the stairs (I think I was pretty pre-occupied with my grief and funeral arrangements etc to bother with following this up at the time). Now...

    Removal of Omnicron 7000

Hello I live in the house previously occupied by my parents (both now deceased) and I'm currently in the process of doing the place up. My parents had an alarm fitted back in the 1990s (I think?) which is an Omnicron 7000. To my knowledge it hasn't worked for a good few years now but...

    Removing an unused telephone socket

Well, I pulled out the 3 wires from the back of the frontplate of the master socket (I haven't cut off the wires of the bedroom socket yet) as instructed. But unfortunately, now the phone will only work in this master socket, which is situated in the front room, not the living room where the...

    Removing an unused telephone socket

Yes, sorry cajar. For clarification I understood that you meant just the wires attached to the first part of the master socket (ie the first part that can be unscrewed from the box) and not the ones behind which kind of look screwed in like a plug is wired? But cable internet is not affected...

    Removing an unused telephone socket

Thank you Cajar - so I disconnect ALL the wires in the working master socket, not just one particular one? Should I then just push the now free wires back into the master socket and re-screw? With regards to the bedrooom socket - I'm assuming cutting this off won't affect my cable internet...
