what do to with the 'plinth' ? K-rend or paint?

Hi, I have been caught in an argument between the K-render team (who have done a great job) and the Building Contractor on our project. Apologies for the long question but you will need the background. In summary, the render team told me (after they had finished most of the job) that they do...

    Alternative to this touch lightswitch

going back to the photo at top - does anyone recognise the brand? perhaps I can get a like-for-like replacement?

    Alternative to this touch lightswitch

Thanks for that. Hadn't thought about the non-UK aspect.... I'm not wedded to a touchpad but I wasn't sure whether the wiring is set up differently (and therefore have a 'special' fitting that could only be replaced with another touch pad). I guess the answer is 'no' then - I could replace...

    Alternative to this touch lightswitch

One of our 2 touch light switches (photo above) in the kitchen is broken but I'm not sure what we can replace it with. I need to buy a replacement for the electrician to fit. Will one of these be a good replacement...

    CO risk with all boilers?

Hi, good question. We recently had the boiler serviced (because it kept losing pressure) but we have never serviced the gas fire (the only one in the house). As I said earlier we never use it - I only used it once 7 years ago when we moved in just to check it worked. I'm guessing we should...

    CO risk with all boilers?

Thanks Flameport. Very clear on the boiler front - so understood. We do have a relatively old gas fire on the lounge (which we do not use) so perhaps we should have one installed in the lounge 'just in case'. regards, Calva

    CO risk with all boilers?

May be a silly question but is there a CO risk with all boiler types? It is time I updated our carbon monoxide alarm but I don't know if all boiler types need one? We have a Baxi Megaflow in our utility room with the tank on the landing.... Your advice is welcomed. Thanks

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

Thanks 333rocky333 - I didn't realise I could change the base. Here's another photo - do you think they would fit? I will then buy some LEDs (safer?) - this whole experience has put me right off G9s (that are not somehow enclosed in a fitting)

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

the base in the second photo has been broken (by the blown bulb). A mini disaster. I have two of these chandeliers and will now have to peace both of them

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

Just checked up on the mess. One blown bulbs has destroyed its fitting. The other is almost embedded (what is left of it).

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

When I say lamps - for clarification - I mean the fittings. Something like this for the bulbs which were used: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006PFZ3OM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

can someone also tell me what safety precautions I need to take? I can pull the trip switch back down - then am I OK to extract the two wire loops left in the fitting? I guess I'll need pliers...

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

No adaptors. The lamps are good quality from a reputable merchants and the G9 bulbs fit direclty in the lamps. There would be no room for any protective cover as the 'shades' are only a few inches high.

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

Re: the fitting - the bulb fits in the shade. It is not totally enclosed so when the bulbs 'blew' tiny pieces blew out of the top of the shade. As someone said, they almost vapourised. This is the fitting

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

Were they a known, reputable make? From Amazon, cheap but with good reviews - not sure I can post the link if it is for negative reasons..

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

So the bulb wattage is fine... I was aware about not touching but may have by mistake (although they were replaced over 2 months ago)... Any help on how to remove the metal presumably still stuck on the fittings? And I'm still not sure anyone has suggested what the issue may be?

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

Thanks all. In layman's terms, if I reduce the wattage down from 42w (to say 30w) would that help? I think I've had that wattage of bulb in the fittings since I bought them (although the 'new replacements' seem to be the ones that have blown which is why I thought they might be the cause). I...

    Dangerous fitting or dangerous bulbs?

We have 2 identical light fittings in our bedroom. Each fitting carries 3 x G9 Halogen. Last week my wife switched on the lights and one of the bulbs exploded. Only a small bulb but she said there was a blue flash, a loud bang and glass was absolutely everywhere, covering the floor and bed. It...
