Solid Maple floor on contaminated concrete

To add to the last question, whilst the floor is flat / level, I have found a couple of areas where there is some uneaveness. These are around the doors (there is a slope up to the back door where someone has previously tried to fix a crack), and where I've demolished a wall and there is a...

Repairing gaps / holes after building work

OK, another question... As I mentioned before, I removed a wall earlier on in the project. We also had a door put in the wall opposite the demolished wall. Both of these walls were / are non-supporting (engineers report to prove it!) but were made of blockwork. When we bought the...

Repairing gaps / holes after building work

Thanks guys, I think we'll be letting discression take the better part of valour and I'll get someone in to do it! I might still give it a shot in the bedroom after some practice on some old plasterboard!

Solid Maple floor on contaminated concrete

If I'm going down the Elastilon route, is it worth "dust-proofing" the floor with a 5-1 PVA solution?? It is very dusty and mucky in there, so I feel I need to do something!

    What cable might this be?

Hurrah! In that case I can safely rip them out! I'll probably just roll them up and chuck them in the void above but at least I can do it safely! If I do junction box the cables, I take it I need to leave the junction box visible / accessible?

    What cable might this be?

Greater than 27 years old could be about right - they may well be ages with the house, which is early 60's. It is a pair of grey cables, although they're not joined. The inner wires are about the same size as a phone wire. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow if its still worthwhile. With...

Repairing gaps / holes after building work

I've bought a 60's house and prior to moving in carried out some demolition work downstairs - I've removed a breeze block wall, and a builder has installed a couple of doors through 2 other block walls. We are also having a new bathroom built upstairs. We have now moved in to the house with...

    What cable might this be?

I've demolished a wall in my new house. There was a known single socket power outlet on the wall (2 x white cables - I'm guessing twin & earth). However there was also a pair of unknown thinner cables buried inside the wall. They stopped half way up the wall and go into the ceiling (as do...

Solid Maple floor on contaminated concrete

Yup, I did think about it, but at around about £300 all in for 2 days from HSS I simply can't afford it

Solid Maple floor on contaminated concrete

Thanks WoodYouLike! I think I'll go the Elastilon route as it'll be a lot less disruptive, although I can't seem to get their website to work?? I take it its not worth putting any kind of insulation underlay under the Elastilon? I'm also guessing from your DPM comment that the Elastilon...

Solid Maple floor on contaminated concrete

My bad - meant 760mm! always get confused when mixing cm and mm!

Solid Maple floor on contaminated concrete

the longest lengths are approx 760mm x 84mm x 18mm (including tongue on length and width). If I did go down the underlay route, would it be worth putting any sort of insulating material / underlay underneath any sticky solid wood underlay?

Solid Maple floor on contaminated concrete

I have 40m2 of 18mm solid maple flooring to install on a concrete subfloor which has previously had marley tiles stuck down, and left the black / bitumen residue on the floor. I think its fairly impractical to remove this residue due to the size of the floor and amount of dust created when I...
