    Router Type

Depends on what type of broadband connection you have. A modem router will usually be for an ADSL connection (provided over a BT line for example). A normal wireless router without will normally be for a cable broadband connection (Virgin)

    Light circuit keeps popping fuses.

OT (Sorry OP) but we received a variation order from BAE systems recently, we are no longer allowed to use 110v lighting on any machinery that we supply. The reason being that someone in their H&S department is worried about employees stealing the bulbs and them exploding when they put them...

    BT Hawk Tester

Hi there, not sure how accurate the hawk will be for this purpose. TDR's usually have a programmable NVP (Nominal velocity of propagation) this essentially relates to how thick the copper conductors are. Plant machinery, wired in Tri-Rated and 2491X etc is likely to be outside of the range...

    TRV / Bypass question

Fair enough, makes sense really. Sounds like it may also save me a few quid. I'll get one put in while i'm doing some other wiring.

    TRV / Bypass question

Its quite an OAP, Worcester 24i OOI, why the need for a room stat as well? Its quite a good time for me to put additional wiring in at the moment, so adding one wouldn't be too much of a problem. Thanks again

    TRV / Bypass question

Ah bu**er I'm not sure what we've got really, all I can tell you is that its a combi boiler. It doesn't have a room thermostat (hence the TRV's). What am I best doing then as a temporary solution allowing me to keep the bathroom radiator disconnected but still use the CH. Many thanks

    TRV / Bypass question

As you will be able to tell, I have very little idea what I'm talking about when it comes to plumbing work. I am far more electrically biased and as we all know the two don't mix. Anyway.... I'm doing the bathroom out and have taken the radiator off, this radiator was the only one in the...

Simple job - why so expensive?

Sorry, to be clear I wouldn't do this for someone else. But for a DIY'er it would at least give an indication of a connection to earth, and if they are fully intent on doing the job its probably better than nothing. Edit: Probably the best advice is, seek advice of a competent person, even...

    Kitchen Electrics

I'd say have the cable replaced, or at least looked into further. If he's checked all of the accessories for loose connections and found nothing it could be a loose connection in an inaccessible junction box somewhere. Its only going to get worse and could well be a risk of burning.

    PAT testing televisions

Does your company have an insulation resistance tester? You can perform 200ma continuity checks with one if your PAT tester doesn't do it.

Simple job - why so expensive?

When we first moved into our house, one of the first things our lass wanted me to do was to put up a shiny new light fitting that she had bought from ikea (bless) CPC's all present and correct at ceiling rose, connected at CU but low and behold terrible Z's reading. When I finally traced...

    Shower problems

It could be the breaker but it seems a little coincidental given the drilling.... You could do with an insulation resistance and continuity meter.
