We currently have a wired broadband connection but I want to buy a wireless router so that we can use a laptop also & connec the Wii online.

However, I am confused between the difference a wireless router and a wireless modem router?

What should I be buying?

Depends on what type of broadband connection you have.

A modem router will usually be for an ADSL connection (provided over a BT line for example).

A normal wireless router without will normally be for a cable broadband connection (Virgin)

We have broadband from tiscali/talktalk so over the BT line and we use the little white box (sorry can't recall what its called) to spilt the broadband signal and telephone line.

so, I will need a wireless asdl modem router?

thanks
