    Safe to disconnect?

Thanks for the replies. So, in theory it's ok to remove it but if the connections/parts are faulty it could leak so best to get it done properly. Under the hob is a drawer then a cupboard unit. The gas fitting was probably installed as an afterthought by the previous owner when they had...

    Safe to disconnect?

I'm refitting my kitchen and the hob being in-situ is preventing me doing a lot of jobs, so I want to remove it. It has these connections at either end, are either safe to remove with alteration/capping?

    Faulty switch?

Ok, seems I'm the expert then ;) I'll give it a go and report back. Thanks for the useful bits of help, it's much appreciated.

    Faulty switch?

Is that directed at me?! I have missed most of the point of the last 5 pages because it hasn't been at my limited level of knowledge. I'm happy to admit that. The point I was trying to make was that it's worked fine for a long time and suddenly stopped - seems to make sense to just replace...

    Faulty switch?

Soooooooo...... back to the question. The three previously working lamps were fine when I left yesterday and no issues reported since (I don't live at the property). Several of the "experts" at B&Q said to replace the white box/transformer thing with one of these..... Does...

    Faulty switch?

So, just replaced the dimmer for a rocker and it's 3 lamps are on and the previously troublesome one is still not working. I'll leave it a while to see if something happens as it did temporarily work yesterday with the new dimmer....

    Faulty switch?

Thanks for the replies. I'll buy a rocker switch, fit it then see what happens. Is this all correct; 1 if all four lamps work then the original dimmer was faulty and the one fitted yesterday was also faulty/incompatible. 2 if the three lamps that we're working are fine, and the one...

    Faulty switch?

Before this deteriorates into a ruck - looks like you're suggesting the switch may not be up to the job. I'm not at the property to check but tomorrow, will (should it be obvious on the switch what wattage it can handle? As I said, it's worked fine for 5 years until recently when the...

    Faulty switch?

Sorry, I really am low tech on these sorts of things! What's the "switch mode power supply"? Is it one of the wires going to the transformer? I assume not because wouldn't it be dodgy leaving a wire free? If I get a "normal" flick switch is that ok to test things? If it does work, does...

    Faulty switch?

It's worked for 5 years with the same set-up. Maybe my low tech knowledge is too low. I have down lights connected to white boxes - I thought they were transformers. I have the same set-up in 5 rooms with no issues (until today).

    Faulty switch?

Perhaps I wasn't clear - the lamps run off transformers, the switch doesn't.
